When you're planning a Disney or Universal vacation, it's tempting to squeeze every possible minute out of your park tickets.

More rides! More attractions! More magic

But here's my recommendation: build in a rest day.

Sleep in. Enjoy the resort pool. Have a leisurely breakfast. Explore somewhere new. Or simply do absolutely nothing.

Especially when you're traveling with kids, a little downtime can make a big difference in everyone's energy and enjoyment.

You don't have to spend every minute doing something for your vacation to be memorable. ❤️

Basic fare always looks so tempting — that low price is hard to ignore. But here's the catch: basic fare usually doesn't include a free seat selection, so if you want to pick your seat, you're paying extra for it. Add that fee on top of the base price, and it can end up costing more than if you'd just booked the next fare tier up — which usually includes free seat selection.

Now, if you already know you're planning to upgrade your seats anyway, basic fare plus a paid upgrade can sometimes be the cheaper route — you just lose out on earning as many points along the way.

So really it comes down to what matters more to you: saving the most upfront, or earning points that could help cover a future upgrade.

Let’s talk guarantee cabins (GTY) — because I get asked about these more than you’d think.

Basically, you’re telling the cruise line ‘surprise me’ on the exact room, in exchange for a better price. You’ll still get at least the category you booked (so no downgrades), and there’s always a chance you get bumped up to something nicer. The tradeoff? You might land somewhere on the ship you wouldn’t have picked for yourself.

Honestly, if saving money is your top priority and you’re not picky about location, GTY can be a great move. But if things like being midship, near an elevator, or away from the noisy pool deck actually matter to you — that’s when booking your specific cabin is worth the extra cost.

Travel Tip Tuesday: Book the Pre-Nights

Here's one I tell almost every client: if your cruise, tour, or trip starts on a specific day, don't plan to fly in that same day.

Flights get delayed, connections get missed, bags get lost, and weather happens. And your cruise ship? It's not waiting for you.

Give yourself a buffer — arrive at least one day early if you can, two if you've got the time. It's such a small change, but it can be the difference between starting your trip relaxed or starting it in a panic at the airport.

Learned this one the hard way more than once — trust me, it's worth it. 😅
