It's trip report day! We're back from our Disney World + Disney Cruise combo, so grab your popcorn and settle in because I'll tell you allllll about it.

✨ Day 1 - Travel + Typhoon Lagoon + Disney Springs

We took an early flight from Dallas to Orlando, picked up our rental car, and drove straight to Typhoon Lagoon because apparently we don't believe in easing into vacations. Pro Tip: Make a better lunch plan than I did. Someone was very hangry upon park entry and that someone was me. It set a terrible tone until my sweet chili aioli chicken strips and paloma fixed everything. We rented an umbrella since we wouldn't be getting there early enough to get a shaded spot. Turns out, they are very strict about the 4 person rule, and trying to use it with 5 made me more anxious than it was worth. No more umbrella rentals for us. We only stayed for a few hours of slides and the overly aggressive wave pool, and while we had fun, it wasn't the best way to start this trip.

We drove to the Grand Floridian to get settled and showered, and our room was gorgeous, as was the view! That said, we discovered that we are not Grand Floridian people. We are Riviera and Polynesian people. And now we know!

I bought the Quick Service Dining Plan since we were only there for 2 nights, so we made good use of our credits for dinner at Disney Springs! First of all, I am obsessed with Polite Pig with dining plan credits. (Cedar Plank Salmon! Crispy Brussel Sprouts! Jalapeno Cornbread! Polite Slaw! Sweet Tea Old-Fashioned!) Two of us ordered burgers and shakes to go from D-Luxe Burger, and three of us were smarter and ordered Polite Pig, where we all ate in glorious air conditioning.

✨ Day 2 - Hollywood Studios

I already did a full report on this day (scroll back a couple posts), but we rope dropped and called it an early evening. It was a really great day though and we loved the new Muppets version of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster! We did not love eating at Docking Bay 7 for dinner - one and done but worth trying since it was "free" on the dining plan.

✨ Day 3 - Drive to Ft. Lauderdale and Embark on the Disney Destiny!

We left around 7:30 am for the 3.5 hour drive to Fort Lauderdale. I may or may not have gotten lost trying to return our rental car after dropping everyone off at the port. Whoops. But we made it for our 11:30 am Port Arrival Time!

Lunch was at Pride Lands, and I will forever recommend doing a sit-down lunch on embarkation day to calm down after boarding (buffets are stressful!). Then we unpacked, explored the ship to get our bearings (with a pit stop at the Hero Zone for air hockey and foosball), and hit the pool deck for the sail away.

✨ Days 3 - 6 - Cruise Highlights + Lowlights

HIGHLIGHTS:
◼️ The Hero Zone (sports courts, air hockey, foosball)
◼️ Sliding down the slide to the kids clubs to use the handwashers, lol (nostalgia for my big kids, ha!)
◼️ Donut sundaes at Worlds of Marvel
◼️ Snorkeling at Lighthouse Point
◼️ My new cookie sundae hack on the islands
◼️ Haunted Mansion Parlor (creepy-cool bar straight out of the ride)
◼️ Palo Dinner (!!!) - adult-only dining, and now I can't decide if I like brunch or dinner better!
◼️ Chocolate and Liquor Tasting (the best tasting DCL offers, imo!)
◼️ Disney Hercules show
◼️ Dr. Facilier's Parlor (hard-to-get, no-phones-allowed private magic show! well worth waiting in line for)
◼️ Filet Mignon at 1923 (our entire family's favorite meal - aside from Palo for Matt and me, duh)
◼️ Churro Waffles (don't miss these!!!)

LOWLIGHTS:
◼️ Movie theater seats on the new ships aren't super comfy
◼️ I don't love the pool layout on the new ships
◼️ Pride Lands dinner was bleh (and so was the Pirate Night menu but we already knew that, and Matt and I skipped it for Palo - *sorry, kids*)
◼️ Rainy day at Castaway Cay (and really disappointing food quality - Lighthouse Point was so much better)
◼️ I forgot my popcorn bucket!!!!

✨ Day 7 - Travel Home

We really did have an AMAZING time, and even the teenagers all loved it. But they kicked us off the ship on the last day, so we had to go home, womp womp. We took a Lyft from the port to the airport, and the vehicle was so gross and reminded me why I prefer private, pre-arranged transportation, ugh. Also, I was a cheapskate and booked a flight with a layover because airfare is dumb right now, but Southwest came in clutch with an earlier (and shorter) standby flight! Hallelujah because FLL is where dreams go to die, and they don't even have a fancy lounge (acknowledging first world problems, don't come at me).

DID YOU MAKE IT THIS FAR?! What else do you want to know? This got a little out of control, so I tried to shorten it, but I'll answer any questions or elaborate on anything you want to know in the comments!

If you've been eyeing your kids' school calendar for winter and spring break vacation planning, you can officially add Universal Orlando to your booking options now!

Universal pricing is extremely dynamic, so I always recommed booking early to lock in pricing ($50/person deposit), and we can monitor for lower rates throughout the planning process.

Epic Universe is, in fact, epic, but it's extra hot in the summer months, so winter and spring are golden times to visit!

Grab a call time to start your countdown. ✨

Hi friends! I've seen lots of new faces around here lately, and if you haven't met me yet, I'm Heather, and I help you make vacation memories with your people without spending hours lost in research, reviews, and rabbit holes.

Notable:
✨ This is year 8 of my professional travel career
✨ I was a high school English teacher and soccer coach before starting this business (details, strategy, and inspiration come naturally to me, and I'd never let AI do my writing for me, lol)
✨ I'm a married millennial mom with 3 super active teenagers
✨ I read a lot and speak fluent Office quotes
✨ I'm not a budget travel guru - I'm an enabler who emphasizes overall value over the bottom line
✨ I'm not an influencer - I'm the expert who has done the research, knows the destinations I sell inside and out, and will match every detail to exactly what YOU need from your vacation

I may talk a lot of Disney around here, but I also love to explore a variety of destinations with my own family, and I help my clients plan vacations to…

✔️ Disney: Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani
✔️ Universal Orlando, Universal Hollywood, and Universal Kids Resort (I'm a DFW local!)
✔️ Cruises: Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, and Virgin Voyages
✔️ Sandals and Beaches Resorts
✔️ Mexico and the Caribbean (I have a curated list of resorts I recommend for adult-only and family vacations)

This means I’m not your girl for domestic getaways (beach rentals, NYC, National Parks, etc), Hawaii (outside Aulani), Europe, or the like, but if you’re looking for a planner for those trips, I have a network of trusted advisors I’m happy to send you to!

If you're ready to hand off the research and look forward to your vacation knowing every detail is handled, schedule a call, and we’ll get started. I can’t wait to work with you!

I’m mostly staying off grid because cruise time flies and I don’t want to miss it, but I’m currently hunkered down in the rain on Castaway Cay, so here’s a selfie from our gorgeous day at Lighthouse Point yesterday to report back that sailing Disney with teens may be more magical than when they were little. 😂

Also yes, I wear the same swimsuits and hats all the time. 🤷‍♀️

I’ll be back next week with trip reports and regular magical and tropical content. 🌴✨

Steal our 1-day Hollywood Studios plan! For background, we have 3 teenagers and checked into the Grand Floridian the day before our park visit (so our Lightning Lane booking day was 8 days before). We also visited the day after Rock n Roller Coaster reopened with the Muppets and two days after Memorial Day, so the crowds were above average. We didn’t rush from place to place with the exception of rope drop, and we took plenty of breaks.

Our pre-booked Lightning Lanes were Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway (10:20), Tower of Terror (3:20), and Toy Story Mania! (6:00).

The park opened at 9 am with 8:30 early entry for resort guests. Let’s go!

We left the room at 7:07 am, and there was a bus waiting when we made it to the bus stop, which was a huge win. We were off the bus and walking to the security check by 7:30 am. The tapstile lines on the right are almost always shorter, and we were just a few families from the front with this timing! They let us into the park at 7:55 am.

8:00 - Rope dropped Muppets (opened early, walked on)
8:35 - Toy Story Mania (waited 5-10 min)
9:00 - Millennium Falcon (waited 15 min but was up to 70 when we got off)
9:45 - Starbucks break
10:30 - Runaway Railway (1st LL)
11:00 - Star Tours (waited 10 min)
11:30 show - Frozen Singalong
12:05 - Lunch at ABC Commissary
1:15 show - Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular (fans and shade ha!)
1:50 - Vacation Fun (A/C and nap time)
2:30 show - Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After
3:00 - Snack break
3:25 - Tower of Terror (2nd LL)
4:15 - Millennium Falcon (additional LL)
4:50 - Rise of the Resistance (wait time said 45 min but we were off ride in 35)
5:30 - Dinner at Docking Bay 7
6:15 - Toy Story Mania (3rd LL)
6:45 - Snack and pics

We decided to skip Fantasmic even though we love it, so we were back at the resort by 8:30 pm!

If we had stayed, we would’ve taken a midday break after lunch or we would’ve done a table service meal for a bigger reset. The park closed at 10:00 pm, so we could’ve also gone harder all day and caught the rides we missed (Slinky and Aliens) and shows we skipped (Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid).

And as much as we hate early mornings, we only had one park day and it set us up for a low key day where we still got to experience everything we wanted to!

Why are you still packing for your whole family?!?

I stopped packing for my kids a loooong time ago, and if they’re old enough to dress themselves, I think you should, too. 💃 Each one gets a packing list so they know what outfits they’ll need and don’t forget essentials, but life is too short and my trip prep list is too long to micromanage this part.

(Pro Tip: When they were younger and had smaller clothes, I had them put each outfit with underwear and socks in a gallon zip bag, labeled with a sharpie so I could double check that they had it all.)

We have one more day to get our crap together before vacation, and we may be procrastipackers, but at least I’m not doing it all myself. 💪

Happy Saturday! Let's chat about where we spend our money on vacay 💃I'm typically a food and dining experiences girl, but at all-inclusives, you'll probably find me at the spa's hydrotherapy circuit! What are your splurge-worthy experiences?

Also, pay no attention to my questionable resort attire. I don't even know, man.

Also also, I know it's still Maycember, but if you are ready to book your already-quoted vacay or get on my calendar, this is a friendly reminder that TUESDAY is the last day before I close my availability until early June! You guys have kept me super busy this year (love, love), so it's time to vacay with my fam and take care of my end-of-May clients. Don't say I didn't give you a heads up!

May is slammed over here, but in the best way! I have a ton of clients traveling at the end of the month and a family trip of my own mixed in. So here’s your heads up that NEW trip bookings will be on pause May 20 through June 2.

So if you’ve been thinking about reaching out about planning together, May 19 is the last day to get on my calendar until June 3!
