The Central Bar and Restaurant was recommended to me and truthfully, I didn’t know it existed! I love that I keep finding new places and it makes me wonder what is still out there to find!

They do not have an active page, so no tag on this one.

I had the Italian Grilled Cheese and Stuffed Pepper Soup. Let me tell you, it was delicious. Sort of a twist on the comfort of grilled cheese and tomato soup that I often crave.

The restaurant was busy and so was the bar area, which is always a sign of good food! I try to take pics without people and it was actually hard to get them and it wasn’t even typical lunch time!

This was another pleasant surprise for me in Armstrong County and another hometown restaurant to add to my list!

Add it to yours, you won’t be disappointed!

This might be photo overload, but I can’t help it!

The Drake Log Cabin had been on my radar long before I took this job…clear back when I painted it, from a photograph on the America250 PA Armstrong County bell.

The Apollo Area Historical Society has done an amazing job restoring this nugget of history in Armstrong County.
The attention to detail right down to the storage area in the spring house takes you back to an earlier time in the history of our county.

The grounds are peaceful and beautiful and if you are a waterfall chaser like me, stop and walk back and look at the waterfall even if the cabin is not open.

The cabin is currently open by appointment only. Contact them with your group and visit! While you are there, make sure that you see their museum! It is worth the visit!

The water is rising again and there is too much debris in the lake to make it enjoyable as well as safe.

Out of the four places that I recently visited in Apollo, PA, I wasn’t sure which to feature first.

Quilt shops are my personal favorite to visit and I can’t believe I have not been in this one before.

Common Threads is truly one of the cleanest, well-stocked, beautifully curated quilt shops that I have been in! Paula, the employee there was so very helpful, showing me around and helping me pick out fabric that I actually “needed” (if you are a quilter, you understand that)

They have an extensive selection of patterns and kits, a well-lit, creativity inducing class area and the classes they offer..wow! I know I was sad that I missed the overnight bag class!

They are offering a discount in the month of September! Follow their page for more details!

I have found four quilt/fabric shops in Armstrong County now. Have I missed any others?

This is just a sampling of my road trip yesterday.

If you haven’t taken the time to explore the small towns of Armstrong County, you should.

I am going to challenge you to pick a town.
Do the research.
Spend a day there.
Make it a staycation right in your own county!
Support the small businesses that are the backbone of this county!

Here is a start. More on each of these places in the coming days.

My day was in Apollo yesterday.
I had a tour of the Apollo Area Historical Society’s Drake Log Cabin.
Visited Common Threads quilt shop.
Had lunch at The Central Bar and Restaurant. And
Stopped by the Apollo Memorial Library

That was just yesterday though and Apollo has so much more to offer.
I didn’t have time for

Indigo Market and Coffee
Dolly's Diner
Bear Roots
Dairy Queen (Treat)
And more.

I know I will be going back to spend another day there.

Each spot was a little tourist mini vacation and I thought as I visited each of them “this is what I look for when I am traveling and it’s right here in my own county!”

Seriously, this is what I feel like!

Our Mahoning Paddle is scheduled for Sunday, September 13th!

It is $25, lunch included.

All the paperwork is done.

I have crossed the t’s and dotted the i’s.

All I need now is for YOU to sign up…and the creek to not rise!

12 days and fingers crossed for no more torrential downpours.

I have never watched a lake so close!

Does anyone other than me think this is just one of the best lunch stops in the county?

To top that off, there is $6 Wednesdays!

Sprankle's Neighborhood Markets are certainly gems in Armstrong County!

I love our local grocery stores!

Putneyville Store is such a fun place to shop! And the pizza!! Trust me. You will never leave with “just a pizza”!
