Have you stopped by the new Crater Lake mural at Discover Klamath yet? 🎨💙

We’re proud to welcome this new piece of public art into downtown Klamath Falls—and even more excited about what it represents for our community.

Art, placemaking and downtown revitalization play an important role in creating destinations that people want to explore, experience and remember. A beautiful mural can turn a walk down the street into a photo opportunity, encourage visitors to linger a little longer, and give locals another reason to be proud of their community.

Created by Oregon artist Travis Knight, the mural brings the beauty of Crater Lake into the heart of downtown and adds another colorful landmark for visitors to discover.

And the story behind the mural is just as meaningful as the artwork itself. 👇

✨ Eyes to the sky, Klamath! The night sky is putting on a show✨

The Perseid meteor shower peaks Wednesday night into Thursday morning, August 12–13, and this year, the conditions are looking stellar. 🌠 With the peak arriving alongside a new moon, darker skies will create ideal conditions for watching meteors streak across the sky. And with Klamath County’s wide-open spaces and dark skies, there are plenty of places to find a front-row seat.

One important tip: For the best viewing, you’ll likely want to get away from town lights—and, if conditions allow, find an area away from wildfire smoke. Smoke and haze can significantly reduce visibility, so check current fire conditions and air quality before heading out.

🌌 How to catch the show:
• Find a dark, open spot away from artificial light and smoke
• Give your eyes at least 20 minutes to adjust
• Bring your camera and a tripod to capture the night sky 📸
• Stay up late—the show gets better toward the predawn hours
• Bring a blanket or chair, warm layers & a little patience
• Then look up. 🌠

📍 Great spots to watch:
• Crater Lake National Park — incredible views and some of Oregon’s darkest skies
• Crescent Lake — open skies and mountain views
• Odell Lake — settle in along the shoreline and watch the stars reflect across the water
• Lake of the Woods — a beautiful place to spend a summer night under the stars
• Or find your own dark-sky escape among Klamath County’s mountains, forests and lakes

From the mountains to the lakes, Klamath County is made for nights like this.

Save this post, check conditions, grab your blanket and make plans to spend Wednesday night under the stars. ✨
