Kokomo | Local artist JC Barnett III. “This is a commission piece, a senior parking spot for a young lady who over the years I've become great friends with, family friends with. She's a senior this year. Her name is Destiny Forestal, and she’s just a great young lady. She, herself, is an artist in the field of fashion design, and so she and her mother told me one day, “JC, I would love to have you do my senior parking space,” and they shot me a couple of images. One of them was of Spider-Man flying through the city, and the other was of a mermaid, and they landed on the mermaid, and so here we are. It's been a 5 or 6 day process up to this point. I'm extremely excited about how the process has gone for me over the years. I've developed my process and can do great work quickly. The vision really starts with the person who commissioned me to do the piece. They sent me the picture, and they gave me some liberties to kind of goal kind of really any direction that I wanted to go with it, but I stayed pretty true to the design that they sent me except for the fact that in the picture that they sent me the colors were a little smoky, they were a little more dull, and I love a darker look, but out here in the open the color palette that I decided to go with just really pops, especially with the sun shining off of it…it just makes for a happy piece.” I interviewed JC at the Senior Parking Lot of Kokomo High School. You can see the completed painting on JC's page, linked above! I look forward to sharing more about JC and his vision as an artist!

Alexandria | This was the building of the former First Methodist Episcopal Church. The date on the cornerstone is Oct. 27, 1901. The b/w photo is from a postcard available from a GA seller on eBay (link in comments). There is not date on the postcard for the b/w image, but the original fire hydrant appears to be there today. An August 2019 Facebook post shared that the stained glass windows (made in Belgium) have been removed and located elsewhere, and I'd love to hear more about that story.
