Kayak Carolina was founded on November 20, 1998 the day Angela finished a 300 mile plus kayak expedition of the North Carolina and Outer Banks coast, starting at Virginia Beach, VA and finishing in Carolina Beach, NC. Our guides are trained interpretive naturalists and certified i

nstructors by the American Canoe Association. All guides are first-aid certified in Wilderness First-Aid and CPR. We have over 30 years combined experience in teaching, kayaking and the paddle sports industry. We are skilled, knowledgeable, safety-oriented, courteous and fun. The beautiful waters, marsh and secluded sandy beaches of the Carolinas are our backdrop as we teach you the easy how to steps of kayaking. 🛶 How did I end up at Kayak Carolina?
Amy, another guide and friend of mine, recommended me!

🌅 Favorite Tour:
I’m pretty new, so I’ve only done a few, but definitely Zeke’s! I love the possibility of seeing so much wildlife, the history, and how beautiful it is!

😂 Favorite/Funniest Guiding Memory:
I haven’t had many yet, but one that stands out was a kids tour where someone who had never kayaked before volunteered to take a single kayak. He was really nervous and couldn’t paddle a straight line at first, but after paddling with him, he really got the hang of it and ended up being one of the fastest kayakers in the group! I loved seeing his confidence blossom out on the water that day. 💙

🐦 Marsh/Local Wildlife Favorite:
THE SHOREBIRDS!!!! Especially the American Oystercatchers. They have my whole heart!

🌊 WAYBACK WEDNESDAY🌊 MEET GRACE!!

How Grace found Kayak Carolina🛶: My best friend Erin was a guide the previous year and raved about her time with kayak Carolina. As an exercise science student I was very keen on a job that kept me moving and outside while also sharing my passion for the outdoors!

Favorite tour:
Sunrise at Zekes! During my time at Kayak Carolina I was able to offer guided sunrise yoga and kayak tours. 🏖️

Favorite thing about wildlife:
Sunrise tours were my favorite to spot wildlife. A few of my favorite mornings included seeing dolphins feed, and sting rays cruising! 🐠 🐬

Fun Fact: My time at Kayak Carolina inspired my passion for guiding. After my season I continued to guide in Wyoming and California and am now currently living in New Zealand on a working holiday visa!

🛶Our 2nd year Guide Connor did an incredible job capturing the serenity, adventure, and excitement of a Shark Tooth Island tour! 🌊🦈

And what a find!!!!! Meg tooth!!!! This is a piece of prehistoric history. Megalodon was the largest shark known to have ever lived, with teeth that could reach nearly 7 inches long. 🤯

Shark Tooth Island is home to fossilized teeth from sharks that lived millions of years ago, making every trip feel like a real-life treasure hunt!🪎

One mini adventurer might have had all of her fun!!🤩

TOUR GUIDE: Meet Connor! 🛶

📍 Hometown: Clarksville, Maryland

🌿 How did you end up at Kayak Carolina?
After earning my master’s degree, I was working in a lab but wanted a job that would let me spend more time on the water. Kayak Carolina was the perfect opportunity to combine my love for science with the outdoors.

🌅 Favorite tour to lead:
Zeke’s Island Tour! The incredible variety of wildlife, changing conditions, and unique experiences make every trip different.

🐬 Favorite guiding memory:
Paddling through the back of the Zeke’s Island basin marsh while the tide gently carried us along. It was so peaceful, and getting to experience one of the closest things to an untouched ecosystem in Wilmington was unforgettable.

🌱 Favorite thing about the marsh or local wildlife:
I love how every trip offers something different. The constantly changing tides and diverse wildlife make the marsh an endlessly fascinating ecosystem to explore.

❄️ Fun fact:
I studied on four different continents!

📍 Favorite Wilmington recommendation:
If you have the chance, definitely visit Carolina Beach State Park. The ecology there is absolutely breathtaking.
