The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord, NH, will host its monthly Super Stellar Friday series on Feb. 3, 6:30 pm, by welcoming Throwback Brewery for a lesson in Beer Science. Ever wondered why your beer tastes the way it does and how commercial breweries can turn out beer that tastes the same batch after batch? The answer is science! In this talk, Throwback Brewery Co-Founders Annette and Nicole will go over the process of how beer is made, describing the science along the way. From microbiology to chemistry to engineering and with a whole lot of math in between, you can’t make (or taste!) really great beer without the wonders of science. Join us and learn plenty of fun facts about one of the world’s most popular and oldest beverages! Following the presentation, presenters will answer audience questions in a Q & A session, leaving time to explore the museum.

Our Story

The M/V Sophie C. is the oldest floating post office in the US. Each season she provides mail service on Lake Winnipesaukee. Catch a glimpse of lake life that can't be seen from the M/S Mount Washington. The M/V Sophie C. navigates smaller channels and waterways to provide postal service to the island residents of Lake Winnipesaukee. On each of her two daily mail runs, she'll visit a number of different islands, and the Skipper will point out areas of interest along the way. In addition to postal service, Sophie also has a collection of ice cream treats for sale. A daily visit to the dock for a snack is a summer tradition for many of her island friends. Passengers aboard the Sophie C. are invited to fill out Sophie C. postcards and mail them right on board, complete with Sophie's own unique, collectible cancellation stamp!
