05/02/2025
Starting May 7, 2025, the
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will enforce the REAL ID Act. This means that all U.S. travelers aged 18 and older must present a REAL ID-compliant form of identification to board domestic flights or access certain federal facilities.
How to Identify a REAL ID -
A REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or state ID typically features a star in the upper portion of the card. However, design elements can vary by state. If your ID lacks this star, it may not be compliant.
How to Obtain a REAL ID —
To get a REAL ID, you’ll need to visit your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or equivalent agency in person.
Be prepared to provide:
• Proof of identity (e.g., birth certificate, valid passport)
• Proof of Social Security number (e.g., Social Security card, W-2 form)
• Two proofs of residency (e.g., utility bill, lease agreement)
Why This Matters -
Without a REAL ID or an acceptable alternative form of identification, you will not be permitted to board domestic flights or access certain federal facilities starting May 7, 2025. It’s essential to prepare ahead to avoid any travel disruptions.
