Alaskan cruise season is in full swing!! 🛳️🌊🐳
Ever been curious to travel to Alaska on a cruise ship? This is an amazing bucket list destination and I’m here to give you a little insight as to what this voyage looks like!
I was lucky enough to experience living on a cruise ship for a whole summer back in 2017 with Norwegian Cruise Lines. I gained a lot of knowledge stopping at most Alaskan ports of call tons of times over the span of 5 months.
⚓️ What time of year?
Sailings vary from late April to early October!
Weather/season, wildlife spotting, viewing the northern lights and pricing all play a factor on what month you decide to visit.
⚓️ How long are the cruises?
Cruise length can vary, but the most common you will see is a 7 day cruise.
*You can also make your trip longer by adding a CruiseTour, which is essentially a land and sea vacation. These trips can start with a cruise then have you hop on a train and bus to more beautiful sights like Denali National Park.
⚓️ Where do they cruise to?
The most common cruise is through the Inside Passage, which is the southeastern part of the state. Usually departing from either Vancouver, Seattle, or Seward, AK depending on what cruise you are doing.
*My pick is to depart from Vancouver for calmer waters, plus the city is a beautiful place to visit and sightsee!
Main ports of call are Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway, Glacier Bay NP, Hubbard Glacier and many more depending on the cruise you choose.
⚓️ What are some tours to do?
🚁 Helicopter & Glacier Walk (My Top Pick)
As seen above in my photos, this was a highlight of my whole time spent in Alaska. Pricing can be high but extremely worth it, as it’s one of those once in a lifetime opportunities. As we all got out of the helicopter and walked the glacier the pilot had all of us do a push up to drink the glacier water. I can still remember this moment even now years later. Truly amazing experience!
🐋 Whale Watching
❄️ Ice Caves
🛶Kayaking
🛷 Dog Sledding
🏔️ Amazing Hiking
🚂 White Pass & Yukon Railway
🚲 Bike Rentals
🚠 Gondolas & Ziplining
& so much more!
