When I went to Paradise Bay a year ago to video the Mohican moving through Paradise Bay I noticed this sundog high above the bay!
Sundogs are small, rainbow-like patches in the sky, especially near the sun. They are also called parhelia. These are a type of halo formed when sunlight interacts with ice crystals in the atmosphere, typically in cirrus clouds. The ice crystals act like tiny prisms, bending and splitting the light into its component colors, creating the appearance of a rainbow.
Now while they are more commonly associated with winter due to the prevalence of ice crystals in the atmosphere, they can occur anytime there are thin, high-altitude cirrus clouds containing hexagonal ice crystals.
Now a lot of you were wondering why I havent posted anything in the last few days. Well that is because I went into the hospital with vertigo and I am now feeling better. Dont really know what caused it, but stress has been floated out there, which makes sense, it's been a hell of a year and the economy isnt helping folks open up their wallets to support my family's businesses or our employees.
Oh well, I am better now!
Happy Hump Day everyone!
