Christmas Markets. Europe. River cruising. And yes... it really is this magical.

In December 2024, Mike & April sailed with AmaWaterways along the Rhine from Basel to Amsterdam during Christmas Market season — and these are some of our own photos from that journey.

The beautifully decorated ship. Christmas celebrations onboard. Historic European cities dressed for the holidays. Wandering through Christmas Markets with a mug of Glühwein. It was one of those travel experiences we knew we wanted to do again.

Flying into Miami the morning of your cruise? We’re going to try to talk you out of it.

We strongly recommend arriving at least one day before your cruise, and that naturally brings up the next question: Where should you stay?

One of our favorite recommendations for Sea & Sun clients is InterContinental Miami.

We’ve stayed there ourselves multiple times, which means when we recommend it, we’re not simply picking a hotel from a list. We know the property, we know the location, and we know how well it works as a pre- or post-cruise stay.

It gives you a chance to arrive, settle in, enjoy a little bit of Miami and start your vacation without spending the night worrying about whether a delayed flight could cause you to miss your ship.

Well, it's official - April and I are booked!
We're sailing the Southern Caribbean aboard Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady April 1–8, 2028, and this one is going to be extra special because I'll be celebrating my 50th birthday onboard on April 3!
We'll be sailing roundtrip from San Juan with stops in Aruba, Curaçao, Antigua and St. Maarten, plus two sea days to actually relax and enjoy the ship.
And we'd LOVE to have some of our friends join us.
We're planning a special celebration dinner onboard for my birthday, and I can't think of a better way to turn 50 than somewhere in the Caribbean surrounded by April, friends, great food and probably a few cocktails.
