Cruising solo is honestly one of my favorite ways to travel 🚢✨
I get to do exactly what I want, when I want—no schedules, no compromises. Want to sleep in or go to bed early? Done. Want to catch every show? Also done. I can be as social (or anti-social) as I feel that day, and somehow both feel equally perfect.
There’s something underrated about people watching with a drink in hand, sunglasses and AirPods in realizing… no one is paying attention to you the way you think they are. It’s freeing.
Perks I didn’t expect:• Always able to find the perfect lounge chair by the pool. Only need 1 and those are available!• Easy seats at shows and entertainment• No waiting on anyone—ever• Total recharge time when I need it• Meeting people naturally (when I want to)
• Cabin to yourself - they’re small!!!
• Confidence boost
Now, what I don’t love…That solo price tag 😅 Paying basically double isn’t ideal but I work around it by sailing off-season and booking an interior room (hello, complete darkness = best sleep ever). Plus, you get double loyalty points, so I tell myself it evens out a little.
Some cruise lines cater more to solo travelers with single rooms (which I love to see), but I’m pretty loyal to Royal at this point.
Other downsides:• No one to split costs like excursions, WiFi, or parking• Taking your own photos can be a struggle sometimes• Those moments you wish you had someone to say “remember this?” to
• Safety awareness is on you - especially in ports…you’re the only one keeping track of time, belongings, plans.
And to be clear—I absolutely LOVE sailing with friends too. With the right people, it’s an unforgettable time and some of the best memories are made.
But honestly? The freedom of solo cruising still wins me over every time rather than waiting to find people to go with.
If you’ve ever thought about cruising solo… this is your sign. 💭
