This used to be the way over the Mill Creek right next to our home in Fertility, PA - this photo is from Lancaster County Courthouse and here are the accompanying historic details:

PA/38-36-97x Daniel Pott's / John Bonholtzer's Mill / Fertility Bridge- Was Mill #3 1/2, now it is state owned. It was a single span Burr Truss, built in 1844 by Joseph Elliot and Robert Russell at a cost of $594.00. The overall length was 58', with a clear span of 48', a 14' roadway, a 13' clearance and stood 9'6" above water.

It was located in East Lampeter Township, oriented north-northwest to south-southeast on the Old Strasburg Pike (LR36024 - SR2029) until replaced by a one span open steel bridge on new concrete abutments at the same site in 1925. The 1925 bridge was replaced in 2007 by the present bridge at the same site as the previous bridges.

The way things once were just a stone's throw down the road before there was a Walmart and Flory Park. Our family walks the trail that borders this old waterwheel nearly everyday and never knew, until our friendly neighbor Jon shared that this tidbit of history existed on a postcard depicting The Amish Homestead. We encourage you to share stories of how things once were - it's easy to get lost in what things are becoming and forget the simple ways of living that have led up to this moment. Enjoy the simple peace and joy that is reflected in the rich history here.

A simple place to gather ‘round the table…Thank you to oldemillhouseshop for the beautiful upgrade to our table on the 2nd floor.

A table seems like such a simple piece of furniture.

Have you ever thought about what a table would share if it could talk? What it would taste if it could eat?

The first table that filled this space was a bargain buy from Lancaster Habitat for Humanity Restore. It will always be a part of the story of our house being returned to a home and serving others well, and we are excited for the stories and memories to be made around this new handcrafted table made especially for this space.
