Historic Lancaster Walking Tour guides show 300 years of Lancaster and United States history. Did you know that Lancaster was once the capital of the U.S.?

Have you heard of the Conestoga rifle or the Conestoga Wagon? Can you name any famous local citizens who were instrumental in forging the development of our country? Come to Lancaster City and we'll tell you. Tour Guides are located within the Lancaster City Visitors' Center located at 38 Penn Square. They are easy to recognize in their 18th or 19th Century garb representing such dignitaries as G

eorge Ross, Gen. Edward Hand, Adam Reigart, Matthius Slough, James Buchanan, and Thaddeus Stevens. Come early in the day and shop at Central Market before the tour! Walking tours are available April through October.

Our Willow Valley Communities Sales & Marketing team learned more about the history of with our very own Willow Valley Communities Resident, Board Member, and Historic Lancaster Walking Tour Volunteer Bob Frick. For nearly 50 years, the Historic Lancaster Walking Tour organization has guided visitors on foot through our lovely city, highlighting our city’s earliest settlers, where Milton Hershey founded the Lancaster Caramel Company, and much more.

Whether you are new to our wonderful city or have lived here for decades, you could discover a deeper appreciation for the place we’re proud to call home. We are all counting the days and hoping the temperatures will rise by April 1, 2025.
Our tours will begin for the 2025 season inside the Marriott/convention center 25 South Queen St. on the south east corner of Penn Square.
The Lancaster City Welcome Center will be under renovation for the next year.
We hope to see you soon with warmer weather.

It’s that time again. Starting this Saturday, April 1, 2023, Historic Lancaster Walking Tour, Corp. begins its 47th year of tours of the downtown historic area.
No reservations are needed or taken. All you need to do is show up 10 minutes before the tour to buy tickets.
