Huge shout out to Steve Kobs, who sent this great pic of the 1938 dedication of the Grand Ol Lady, the 1937 Courthouse on 251 West Amador st. In Las Cruces.
From Steve;
“I attached my notes. I am confident about the IDs of the governor, his wife and the supreme court guy. I feel pretty good about Sam Klien but cannot be positive. There are plenty of recognizable faces in the crowd...I would think that a relative coming through could ID someone. Likely you will I be able to figure out the exact vantage point of the photographer. My guess is the awning or overhang.”
He’s correct in that it’s the second floor balcony, no doors leading to it though , only through windows.
The group is gathered inside the courtyard of the building on the Southside. We have a flag pole in that courtyard now, but in 1937 the flag pole was located on the roof.
We will enlarge the photo with information Steve provided and frame it to be along side old framed photos of early Las Cruces in our hallway historic gallery! Come visit us at the old Courthouse & Jail! History lives! 877-808-6877
