Just met Erik Bendl in Lincolnton, NC. We saw him on the street and stopped and asked him what he was doing pushing that BIG globe. As you all know, the globe is a reminder of my research and kind of hit close to home. I needed a sign today... He said he was walking all the way from Myrtle Beach, SC to Glen Alpine, NC to raise awareness for diabetes. What an amazing man!! If you see him, donate and help him raise awareness. I think he's been on TV quite a bit lately. What a blessing to be inspired to help others at Thanksgiving. Thank you Erik! You inspired me when I needed it the most.

The sego lily may be the state flower of Utah, but it doesn’t worry about state lines and grows along sunny trails in Great Basin National Park, just a few miles over the Nevada line. Phone data service also doesn’t worry about state lines. If your phone clock is automatically set by data signals, be aware that Great Basin National Park is in Nevada, which is on Pacific time. Our neighboring state of Utah is on Mountain time. If you arrive an hour early for your cave tour, this may be the reason.

Do you know where this is? Many areas of the park, like Iceberg Lake, have been impacted by extreme visitation. What suggestions do you have for reducing visitor impact on sensitive areas?

One easy way to reduce your impact is to stay on the trail. Avoid hiking on the edge of a trail whenever possible. Some of Glacier's busiest trails have been widened more than 10 feet by spread out hikers!
