On May 26, 2025, Delta Air Lines Flight 694, en route from Detroit to Los Angeles, made an unexpected but compassionate detour to Minneapolis to assist a seriously ill dog onboard. The flight, which departed from Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and was scheduled to land at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), diverted to Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport (MSP) after the dog began showing alarming signs of illness mid-flight.

The cabin crew acted swiftly, asking if any passengers had veterinary training. Fortunately, a veterinarian onboard volunteered and provided immediate care to stabilize the dog’s condition. Upon landing in Minneapolis, the dog received further medical attention from a team that was already prepared and waiting on the ground.

Although the emergency landing resulted in a delay of about 2.5 hours, passengers and pet lovers alike praised Delta for prioritizing the life of the animal. The airline’s swift response and care for the pet highlighted its commitment to safety and compassion, not just for human passengers, but for all lives aboard. The incident has since been widely recognized as an example of empathy in air travel, reinforcing Delta’s reputation as a customer- and pet-focused airline.

🚨 TSA PreCheck Changes 🚨

Starting May 5, TSA PreCheck travelers at PIT will no longer use the alternate security checkpoint (Level 3) and should head to the main checkpoint on Level 2 for screening.
