There's something special about wandering through South Park during the city’s oldest running art festival. Music drifts from the gazebo, artists chat with visitors about their work, and every turn reveals another booth filled with original, handmade pieces of art. It's an experience that has become a Lawrence tradition for more than six decades. Learn more about Art in the Park, happening September 19-20, in our latest blog:

It's the best week of the year for history buffs! For over 30 years, the Civil War on the Border series put on by @[watkinsmuseum] has marked the anniversary of Quantrill’s Raid on Lawrence with bus and walking tours, historical talks, and a moving memorial service for the victims of the raid. Every annual series has a theme, and in 2026 they'll acknowledge connections between 1776 and 1863 by rebranding the series as American Revolution AND Civil War on the Border. From August 20-23, check out Quantrill's Raid and Early Churches of Lawrence walking tours, talks and exhibits about the Revolution and the Civil War, and attend the annual memorial service for the victims of Quantrill’s Raid. The service will be Saturday at First United Methodist Church at 10 AM, followed by a historical talk by Donna Rae Pearson: The Taste of Freedom: A Juneteenth Foodways Journey. Join us for this amazing event and learn more about local history! More details can be found here: https://bit.ly/4g3JwUR
