National Macaroon Day is celebrated every year on May 31st in the United States. It's a day dedicated to enjoying and appreciating macaroons, a type of small circular cake, typically made from ground almonds (the original main ingredient), coconut, and/or other nuts, with sugar and sometimes flavorings, food coloring, glace cherries, jam or a chocolate coating. Coconut is a common addition, leading many to think of coconut macaroons as the standard macaroon type.
On National Macaroon Day, people celebrate by baking macaroons at home, participating in macaroon-making classes, or enjoying these treats at bakeries or from store-bought packages.
