Join us at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center this Thursday for an evening exploring the connections between art, science, and Lakota star knowledge.

SURF’s 2026 Artist in Residence, Rachel Berg, will share her work and the inspiration behind Kapemni: Twisting Between Worlds, a project that brings these ideas together through art and storytelling.

Halloween and Dark Matter Day come together in Lead on Saturday, October 31! 🎃🌌

Join us from 4:30–6:30 p.m. at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center for SURF’s annual Trunk or Treat and Dark Matter Day celebration.

Trunk or Treat offers a fun and safe way for families in the Lead area to celebrate Halloween. Head inside the Visitor Center for hands-on Dark Matter Day activities and explore some of the biggest mysteries of our universe.

This October, SURF is continuing its tradition of supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a fundraiser benefiting the Foundation For Health. 💖🎗️

This Lead-Deadwood organization provides vital support to local cancer patients and promotes preventive initiatives, including screenings and education, throughout the Northern Hills and beyond.

There are several ways to get involved this year! Make a donation, purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win a set of custom co****le boards, or grab a partner and join us for our Play for Pink Co****le Tournament on Friday, October 16.

Every contribution helps support the Foundation for Health and its work in our community.

🍂 Fall is here in Lead, and winter hours are just around the corner at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center!

Beginning Saturday, October 3, the Visitor Center will shift to winter hours:

🕘 Monday–Saturday | 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
🚪 Sundays | Closed beginning October 4

Stop in to explore our exhibits, learn about the science happening nearly a mile underground, and see what’s happening at SURF.
