Time winding down to experience the historic The Silo Restaurant before it closes for the season. Get your haystacks while you can!

Our story starts In the 1930s…the cylindrical structure that you now know as The Silo was used to store coal that fueled the steamships docking at the bustling Lewiston waterfront. It played a critical role in the region’s busy tourism scene, supported by the Great Gorge Railway bringing visitors to the Niagara River’s steamers. A massive ice jam in 1938 devastated the steamer terminal, destroying much of the waterfront infrastructure. Remarkably, the coal silo (our lovely building) remained standing even though the adjacent terminal was demolished. The silo also served a protective purpose during another ice jam in the winter of 1955, acting as a barrier to prevent damage to nearby homes along the riverbank. After the railway’s closure in 1938, the waterfront activity faded; the silo stood mostly abandoned until the late 1970s, when efforts were made to revitalize the riverfront as a fishing and recreational area. In 1997 Mr. H envisioned renovating the silo as a refreshment stand. By April 1998, the Silo Restaurant was fully operating as a Summer Fun Restaurant. ….and that my friends is why we say..”HISTORY NEVER TASTED SO GOOD”. Now wait until you hear about our ice cream caboose 😉🤯
