Some info for travelers currently at Jamaica, since it appears leaving is no longer a viable option, as airports are either closed or remaining flights out are full.
Info gathered to prepare by another traveler:
"Mostly common sense, but the closer landfall gets, it can be hard to focus. Best to take time now to prepare what you can.
Fill your room tub. Gather some non-perishable snacks and bottled water for your room. Charge up phones and devices as long as you can. Touch base with the embassy and also a trusted person(s) off island.
Put on the most protective flat shoes you have with you, no heels, no flip flops. If you wear prescription glasses, attach a croakie to keep them secure. Put vital prescriptions, passport/money/ID in a zip lock bag or secure waterproof bag (ideal if you have a waterproof phone case). Take pictures of those items on your phone and send it to your email or someone you trust not on the island. If you have basics with you like Advil, bandaids or bandages, mini-flashlight, keep those with you too.
If you can get your hands on a Sharpie, write your name and a contact phone number OFF ISLAND on your arm. Expect to lose cell and internet service, unless you happen to have a satellite phone. Electricity will be lost or spotty. Avoid elevators.
Follow the instructions of staff on site, but also use common sense. Stay away from windows. Be alert for storm surge and be prepared to move to higher floors or ground if need be.
After the hurricane, remember there will be new hazards, such as downed wires, hanging limbs and weakened trees, animals and reptiles that are in unexpected places."
Waterproof bags can be found in the gift shops or scuba shop. There are also satellite phone apps. Power will must like go out. Get personal items where you can find them and clear walking path in your room. Use common sense and stay safe.
