Did you know that the founder of Liberal, Seymour S. Rogers, didn't spend his final years in the town he established? While Liberal blossomed from a prairie settlement into the vibrant community we know today, Rogers moved on, and his story eventually faded into mystery. For years, locals wondered where he had gone. Thanks to dedicated local historians, the mystery is solved: Rogers and his wife, Addie, are laid to rest in Joplin, Missouri. Even over a century later, we are still discovering new chapters in the life of the man who put our city on the map.

Most people know Seymour S. Rogers helped establish Liberal, but fewer know that he didn't spend the rest of his life here.

As Liberal grew from a small prairie settlement into a thriving community, Rogers eventually moved away. Over time, his connection to the town faded, and for many years residents weren't even sure where he had ended up.

It wasn't until much later that local historians and researchers tracked down what happened to the town's founder. Their search led them to Joplin, Missouri, where Seymour S. Rogers and his wife, Addie, are buried today.

More than a century after Liberal was founded, people are still uncovering pieces of the story behind the man who helped put the city on the map.
