Day 7: Exploring Switzerland, Austria & Bavaria — and Oktoberfest! 🇨🇭🇦🇹🇩🇪. Today we toured Linderhof Palace, the only palace - out of three - that King Ludwig II lived to see completed. We walked the extraordinary halls that were modeled after Versailles with an expert guide and basked in the luxury of past royals. After, we made our way to the Ettal Abbey* – a Benedictine monastery founded in 1330 by Louis IV. Here, we toured the Basilica followed by a brewery tour complete with tastings of the Bendictiner Weissbier. We then returned to Innsbruck and later some experienced the rich musical tradition of mountainous Austria during a Tyrolean folklore show hosted by a well-known local musical family.

Day 6: Exploring Switzerland, Austria & Bavaria — and Oktoberfest! 🇨🇭🇦🇹🇩🇪 Today we traveled through the picturesque Austrian countryside to Salzburg starting with a walking tour featuring Mirabell Gardens (seen in The Sound of Music), the quaint Getreidegasse (birthplace of Mozart), and many other highlights of this beautiful city. After the tour we enjoyed a delightful lunch at the 1,200-year-old St. Peter’s Restaurant, the oldest in Austria and still owned by the monks. After lunch we enjoyed free time in the afternoon to explore Salzburg at leisure before returning to Innsbruck.

Day 5: Exploring Switzerland, Austria & Bavaria — and Oktoberfest! 🇨🇭🇦🇹🇩🇪
Today we made our way from Switzerland into Austria, with a special stop in Liechtenstein, the world’s smallest German-speaking country and the only country located entirely within the Alps. We explored its tiny capital, Vaduz, wandering the winding cobblestone streets of the historic Mitteldorf district and strolling along Stadtle, the heart of this charming little city.
We then continued to Innsbruck, surrounded by the spectacular Austrian Alps. We discovered the city’s rich history and culture, including Maria-Theresien-Strasse, the Hofburg and the iconic Golden Roof, while others explored Innsbruck’s distinctive architecture and famous ski jump. Another incredible day, another beautiful destination—and another reminder of just how much there is to discover when you travel the world! 🌍✈️

Day 4: Exploring Switzerland, Austria & Bavaria — and Oktoberfest! 🇨🇭🇦🇹🇩🇪
After another wonderful breakfast, we headed to Lucerne, the “Swiss Paradise on the Lake,” for a leisurely stroll through its beautiful 800-year-old Old Town. We discovered historic treasures including the famous Chapel Bridge and Water Tower, Renaissance-style Town Hall, Baroque Jesuit Church and the Lion Monument, carved into natural rock to honor the Swiss Guards who died defending the Tuileries Palace.
After lunch, we headed to Mount Pilatus for an unforgettable Alpine adventure! We ascended to nearly 7,000 feet aboard the world’s steepest cogwheel railway, reaching an incredible 48% gradient, and took in breathtaking panoramic views from the summit. We descended by panoramic gondola, enjoying spectacular bird’s-eye views along the way. Another incredible day of Swiss history, culture and breathtaking scenery!

Day 3: Exploring Switzerland, Austria & Bavaria — and Oktoberfest!
After another amazing breakfast, we departed Bern and headed to Habkern, a picturesque mountain village outside Interlaken that looks like it came straight from a postcard. Along the way, we were incredibly lucky to witness a special annual tradition — a parade of cows making their way down from the mountains to the valley, something that happens only once a year! In Habkern, we visited a local workshop and learned how the traditional Swiss alphorn is made, followed by a wonderful concert and demonstration celebrating the art of yodeling. Of course, no Swiss adventure would be complete without fondue, so we enjoyed a delicious fondue lunch at a local restaurant.
Back in Bern, everyone had the afternoon to explore at their own pace. Some visited the beautiful Rose Gardens and the famous Bear Pit, while others wandered the streets of the capital, explored the shops and soaked up more of the Swiss atmosphere. Another fantastic day filled with tradition, music, food, culture and unforgettable experiences! And tomorrow, the adventure continues!

Day 2: Exploring Switzerland, Austria & Bavaria — and Oktoberfest!
Today we explored Bern, Switzerland’s beautiful capital city, with a local guide who led us through both the historic Old City and the newer parts of Bern. We saw the Federal Palace, Swiss National Library, Casino, the famous Zytglogge clock tower, countless statues and fountains, and spectacular views of the city with the Swiss Alps in the distance. We then traveled up Gurten Mountain to 2,574 feet (858 meters), where we enjoyed breathtaking panoramic views of Bern, the surrounding towns and mountains.
We finished the day with dinner at a wonderful local restaurant, enjoying genuine Swiss cuisine and great company. Beautiful scenery, fascinating history, incredible food and wonderful people — this is what traveling is all about! And we're only on Day 2! If you've ever thought about joining us on one of our adventures, maybe it's time to start packing your bags. There are still plenty of places in the world for us to explore together!

Day 1 on our "Discover Switzerland, Austria & Bavaria" (during Octoberfest) Trip. Arrived today in Bern, the capital of Switzerland which rests in the Swiss countryside. The cobbled Old Town section is so well preserved that residents who lived here 500 years ago would still find it familiar today. We spent the day exploring the city and then joined our fellow travelers for a welcome dinner featuring local cuisine.
