We apologize, but The Mill Museum on Route 66 Lincoln Illinois, and the Logan County Tourism Bureau will be closed tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 9th, through Monday, Oct. 12th, for staff to attend an out-of-town conference. We remain open today until 4pm.

The grant application for the Logan County Heritage Route 66 Trail was submitted Monday, October 5!

The application requested nearly $3 million in funding through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program to begin the process of developing a bike trail from Williamsville to Lincoln.

Thank you to the Logan County Board, City of Lincoln, Illinois, Village of Elkhart, The Logan County Highway Department, and the many organizations and individuals throughout Logan County that worked on and supported this grant application.

While we await the funding decision, our next steps are planning with the Tourism Bureau’s new bike committee, building community partnerships, and organizing fundraising to help meet the local match if awarded.

Our goal is to raise $500,000 to support the bike trail long term.

Tonight we packed the room with individuals across Illinois interested in learning about and supporting the Logan County Bike Path project!

Attendees asked questions and provided valuable feedback on the proposed plan.

The initial phase of the plan will consist of applying for a state grant for nearly $3 million to fund initial engineering of the path. The state grant will require an anticipated 20% local match.

To help raise funds for the local match, the Logan County Tourism Bureau is launching a pledge campaign!

We aim to raise $500,000 in funds from individuals, businesses, institutions, and local governments across Logan County to bring the bike path to life.

A group of out of town bicyclists stopped by The Mill today and will be spending the night in Lincoln before resuming their journey— and that’s the type of tourism Logan County can capture more of with a new bike trail!

We especially want to hear from people who know and care about Logan County.

You don’t need to come from the tourism industry to be the person we’re looking for.

We’re looking for someone who can:
- Tell Logan County’s story through great writing and marketing
- Connect people, businesses and communities
- Turn good ideas into action
- Pursue grants and other funding opportunities
- Confidently manage budgets, finances and day-to-day operations

And most importantly, get excited about helping Logan County grow as a destination

Salary: $45,000–$52,000
Benefits: Monthly insurance stipend + generous paid vacation and holidays
Flexibility: Possibility of partial remote work
Deadline: October 9

Would you like to see a bike path connecting communities across Logan County?

The Logan County Board with support from the Logan County Tourism Bureau, The Village of Elkhart, IL and Logan County Highway Department, is exploring plans for a new multi-use trail that could eventually stretch across Logan County, connecting with existing trails, creating alternatives to motorized travel, and creating new opportunities for recreation, tourism and community connectivity.

Community members are invited to learn more about the proposed project and share their input at a public meeting on Wednesday September 23rd at the Linc Room in the Old Bank building in downtown Lincoln.

The long-term vision is to create a trail through Logan County that would connect with existing trail systems near Williamsville to the south and McLean to the north, helping link communities and destinations throughout the county.

The project would also position Logan County to take advantage of state funding available through the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP). This year, the Illinois Department of Transportation is accepting applications for the competitive grant program, which provides funding for projects including bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. Eligible projects may receive up to $5 million in funding.

The Logan County Board and its partners are working to develop an application for the program. An important part of that process is demonstrating community interest and support for the proposed project.

“We want to hear directly from Logan County residents about whether this is something they would like to see in our communities,” said Karen Conn, board member of the Logan County Tourism Bureau and trustee on the Village of Elkhart Board. “This meeting is an opportunity for people to learn more about the vision, ask questions and learn how they can get involved in shaping and supporting a project like this moving forward.”

A countywide trail could provide Logan County residents with additional opportunities for walking, biking and outdoor recreation while also creating a new tourism asset capable of drawing cyclists and visitors to communities and businesses throughout the county.
Residents, business owners, community leaders, cyclists, walkers and anyone interested in the future of trails and outdoor recreation in Logan County are encouraged to attend.
