We are in Middle Island today! Did you know, Middle Island's name was derived from from the fact that it lies about halfway between the eastern and western ends of Long Island (Montauk Point and the East River) as well as halfway between the northern and southern boundaries (the Long Island Sound and the Atlantic Ocean). If you're into hiking, camping, biking or just want to pack a lunch, head over to Cathedral Pines Park (link bellow). If you want to go for a short hike and enjoy the forest scenery, head to Prosser Pines Nature Preserve and hop on the 0.7 mile loop trail. Do the loop twice if you need to get your steps in :-) (link bellow). If you're into fresh water fishing head to Artist Lake and drop your line for some large mouth bass, pickerel, perch or crappie (make sure your fishing license is up to date!) and while you're at it, bring the canoe or kayak!
