Entergy Arkansas has issued an official response regarding recent news coverage of its power agreement with Google for the West Memphis data center.

In its statement, Entergy alleges a "serious and careless mathematical error" in media reporting, explaining that calculations were based on just 12 months of payments rather than the full 20-year agreement term. Entergy projects that Google's financial contribution will total approximately $2.103 billion over 20 years, covering 100 percent of its power costs while delivering $1.1 billion in net benefits to lower costs for existing utility customers.

A major headline in Arkansas energy and tech policy is sparking heated debate this week! ⚡💻

Entergy Arkansas and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette are locking horns over reporting on Google’s massive $4 billion West Memphis data center and the Cypress Solar project in Jefferson County.

Entergy claims a "serious and careless mathematical error" in recent reporting misled the public to believe Google was paying only a fraction of the cost for its power facility. Entergy states that when calculated over the full 20-year agreement instead of just 12 months, Google will actually pay over $2.1 billion, covering more than 100 percent of the facility's construction costs.

In response, the Democrat-Gazette pushed back, stating the $526 million figure came directly from official PSC public records requests and Google's own cited figures, denying any math calculation error on their part.

As energy infrastructure, corporate data centers, and consumer utility rates continue to intersect across the Natural State, transparency is everything.
