We get this question sometimes, so we wanted to share a little perspective as Airbnb hosts:

“If I’m paying a cleaning fee, why do I still need to follow check-out instructions?”

It’s a fair question — and the answer really comes down to how Airbnb stays work behind the scenes.

Unlike a hotel, where there’s a full staff and all-day access to housekeeping, most short-term rentals operate within a tight window between guests. On turnover days, we often have just a few hours to fully clean, sanitize, inspect, restock, and reset the home before the next check-in.

The cleaning fee covers the deep cleaning — laundry, sanitizing surfaces, scrubbing bathrooms, changing linens, and making sure everything is guest-ready. The check-out guidelines, on the other hand, help us get started efficiently so we can stay on schedule.

Simple things like:
• Taking out the trash
• Starting the dishwasher
• Gathering used towels
• Leaving the home at the scheduled check-out time

These small steps make a big difference. They help us turn the home over faster and keep things running smoothly — especially for guests who request early check-in or are arriving the same day.

It’s not about asking guests to “do chores.” It’s about leaving the space in a respectful condition — much like you would in your own home or when staying with a friend.

We truly appreciate the guests who take a few extra minutes to follow the guidelines. It helps us provide a consistently clean, comfortable experience for everyone who walks through the door.

Thank you for helping us make every stay a great one 🤍

If you’ve ever stayed at an Airbnb, you’ve probably noticed that check-in and check-out times are pretty specific. As hosts, we want to share a little insight into why those times matter so much.

Turnover days aren’t just about a quick tidy-up — they’re about making sure every guest walks into a clean, comfortable, and welcoming space. Between bookings, we often have just a few hours to clean, sanitize, inspect for damage, restock essentials, and reset the home so it’s ready for the next arrival.

Recently, we had a couple of situations that really highlight why these timelines are important.

In one case, a group checked out late and left behind more than just the usual mess. A broken coffee table, a large stain on the dining table, and missed check-out steps meant we had to spend hours extra cleaning — including scrubbing one area alone for nearly three hours. That delay doesn’t just impact us — it risks the experience for the next guests who are expecting a spotless stay.

In another instance, a guest left behind half-full drinks on nearly every surface, dirty dishes in the sink, trash piled beside the bin, a fridge full of leftovers, and stains left from cardboard boxes on the table. Situations like this significantly extend cleaning time and make it difficult to maintain the standards we pride ourselves on.

We completely understand that guests are on vacation and want to relax—that’s the whole point! But check-out instructions and times are there to keep things running smoothly for everyone. Even small efforts — like disposing of trash, starting the dishwasher, or leaving on time — make a big difference.

We love hosting and creating a great experience for every guest. Following check-in and check-out guidelines helps us continue doing just that.

Thank you to all of our amazing guests who treat our home with care — we truly appreciate you!
