We’re chugging along little by little on small and large projects this week. We don’t have an install date for the new upstairs flooring yet, other than “after Thanksgiving,” so painting the upstairs rooms has been my priority.
I’ve learned a lot on this job, which was my goal. I wanted to increase my skill set by learning how to use a paint sprayer. I watched a lot of videos, read a lot of product reviews, and purchased the wrong type of sprayer first, then bought the one I used yesterday.
Turns out the sprayers with a paint container attached are meant for smaller jobs, like trim, doors, a shelving unit/bookcase, or other DIY tasks that aren’t going to use more than a quart of paint.
Due to its weight when full (over 10 lbs), it wasn’t a smart choice for ceilings or walls. And for an entire bedroom, I’d have been filling the container at least 5 or 6 times.
I went with a Graco Magnum Project Painter. The beginner’s DIYer edition made by the company. It was easy to use, no real issues. Pete helped with taping up the rooms and cleaning the unit at the end, because I had no painting clothes with me and was sweating rivers in the white Tyvek suit (affectionately called a bunny suit by a Lowe’s employee).
Today I’ll be learning to use the smaller sprayer with the attached paint container, instead of returning it, to do the trim, crown molding, and doors. The store was out of the trim spray tip (for a 6” spray pattern), and I didn’t want to lose three days of work time waiting for it.
We’ve also got the tree guys here today limbing up the trees to the allowed 20’ height for better lake viewing. We’ll be keeping the oak limbs to use for firewood.
Pete’s been busy as well, spreading 3 yards (4.5 tons) of pea gravel on the black fabric walkway leading to the boat house, plus raking a bunch of pine needles to prep the area we plan to make a corn hole court, and tearing out carpet on the stairs.
More details on the pics! Thanks for taking an interest in our new rental property. We’d love to host you and your family one day. ♥️❤️🐟⛵️🚤🌊🦆🛶🎣
