The Power of Your Words in Small Spaces
Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
James 3:10 (NKJV)
James 3:10 challenges us: How can we use the same mouth to praise God and then tear down those made in His image? In RV life, it happens more often than we’d like. We bless a friend during a morning Bible study, then curse under our breath when someone parks too close. We encourage our children with Scripture, but later snap at them in frustration because there is no space to breathe.
RV life brings you closer to both beauty and tension. You share small spaces with loved ones, bump elbows with strangers, and often find yourself adjusting plans, expectations, and attitudes. In this closeness, our words matter more than ever.
Our words echo louder in close quarters. They bounce off the walls of our fifth wheel, our travel trailer, our converted bus and they settle into hearts.
James reminds us, our mouths were made to bless. In this lifestyle, where every word is more concentrated, let’s speak with purpose. Let our speech reflect Jesus in the small spaces, just as much as it does in the public ones.
Reflection Questions:
• In the closeness of RV life, how have your words brought either peace or tension?
• What would it look like to speak words of life—even in stressful, small-space moments?
