Rest in peace, Flaco Jiménez 🪗 🎶

The world has lost a true musical legend. Flaco passed away on July 31, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born in San Antonio, Flaco was the heart and soul of conjunto and Tejano music — a five-time Grammy winner, National Medal of Arts recipient, and a cultural ambassador who brought the sound of the borderlands to the world.

As a founding member of the Texas Tornados, he gave us unforgettable hits like “Hey Baby, Que Paso”. But his solo career was just as powerful — spanning decades, topping charts, and earning honors that few in regional music have ever achieved.

Flaco didn’t just play the accordion — he told stories with it. His music will live on forever in dance halls, backyard parties, and hearts around the world.

Gracias, Flaco. 🕊️

A message from the City of Lockhart:

🚗 Downtown Parking Update 🚫

As part of the Downtown Revitalization Project, changes are coming to parking in the downtown area.

Starting Friday morning (8/1), drivers will no longer be able to park in the median of Commerce St., on the east side of the courthouse. This change is necessary to improve traffic flow and improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.

Crews are expected to begin the same work on the west and south sides of the courthouse in the coming weeks.

🌳The trees along the medians will be preserved and remain in their current locations. The contractor is working with an arborist to protect the integrity and life of the trees.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue to enhance the overall downtown experience.

📣 Call for Candidates – 2025 Diez y Seis Queen Scholarship Competition!

The Greater Caldwell County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce proudly invites local young women entering grades 9–12 to apply for the 2025 Diez y Seis Queen Scholarship Competition. This exciting opportunity empowers youth to celebrate Hispanic heritage, serve as cultural
ambassadors, and raise funds for scholarships awarded to graduating seniors in our community. Participants will compete by submitting a short essay and raising funds through donations and raffle ticket sales. The winner will be crowned Queen and represent the Chamber in community events and parades throughout the year. Second and third place winners will be honored as Princess and Duchess.

Eligible candidates must be girls residing in Caldwell County who are passionate about promoting Hispanic culture. The competition includes a 500-word essay about a prominent Hispanic American and a fundraising campaign where every dollar counts as one vote. An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 6:00 PM (location to be determined). The deadline to register as an official candidate is Friday, July 25, 2025, and all funds must be submitted by Monday, September 8, 2025. The Queen, Princess, and
