SLMS Site Based Decision Making Council
Nominations and Elections
South Laurel Middle School is currently accepting nominations for two (2) parent representatives to serve one year on the Site Based Decision Making Council for the 2025-2026 school year. Any parent that has a child attending SLMS during the 2025-2026 school year is eligible for nomination. The definition of “parent” has been expanded to by KRS 160.345 to include parents, stepparents, foster parents or persons having legal custody of a student. A parent representative cannot be an employee or a relative of an employee in the district administrative offices or at SLMS. Also, the parent representative cannot be a local school board member or their spouse.
SBDM representatives are required to attend a training session (six hours for a new member, three hours for an experienced member) and monthly meetings.

Elections will take place at SLMS between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm June 9th thru the 13th.

Schools with eight percent or more student minority population will have at least one minority representative to the school council. For the purposes of SBDM, minority is defined as American Indian; Alaskan native; African-American; Hispanic, including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Central American or South American origins; Pacific Islander; or other ethnic group underrepresented in the school” (KRS 160.345(1)(a)).
