New student enrollment paperwork can be picked up in the front foyer 8 am till 2 pm daily. 2024 - 2025 5th graders from Hunter Hills, Keavy, Sublimity, Wyan Pine, Cold Hill and London DO NOT have to complete any paperwork for 2025 - 2026 SLMS enrollment. 6th grade physicals (NOT SPORTS PHYSICALS) and updated immunization certificates can be dropped off in the front foyer as well.

SLMS Site Based Decision Making Council
Nominations and Elections
South Laurel Middle School is currently accepting nominations for two (2) parent representatives to serve one year on the Site Based Decision Making Council for the 2025-2026 school year. Any parent that has a child attending SLMS during the 2025-2026 school year is eligible for nomination. The definition of “parent” has been expanded to by KRS 160.345 to include parents, stepparents, foster parents or persons having legal custody of a student. A parent representative cannot be an employee or a relative of an employee in the district administrative offices or at SLMS. Also, the parent representative cannot be a local school board member or their spouse.

SBDM representatives are required to attend a training session (six hours for a new member, three hours for an experienced member) and monthly meetings.

If you would like to nominate a candidate for the SBDM council, please do so no later than June 6th, 2025. The information required can also be emailed to [email protected].

Elections will take place at SLMS between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm June 9th thru the 13th.

Schools with eight percent or more student minority population will have at least one minority representative to the school council. GIRLS BASKETBALL TRY-OUTS CANCELLED

Girls' basketball try-outs for today, May 20th, has been cancelled. Try-outs will now be Wed and Thurs this week, same times as previously scheduled.

Students receiving awards will be given invitations for parents/ guardians. Ceremonies will be held in auditorium.

8th GRADE DANCE INFO
May 3rd, 2025 6 pm till 9 pm

Tickets are on sale now and are $25. They can be purchased from 7:30 till 8:05 am and during break in the front office. Ticket purchase includes a buffet of snacks including sandwiches, chicken tenders, fruit and vegetables, drinks and desserts. A photo booth will also be available for students to take pictures with their friends. The library will be staffed with volunteers to collect student's personal items during the dance.

Doors will open at 6 pm. With all dances being closed events, only staff, students and approved volunteers will be permitted entry. Physical tickets are not required for entry. Staff will have a roster of students' names attending the dance. Drop off and pick up for the dance will mirror drop off and pick up for the school day. If your student leaves before 9 pm, they will have to be checked out by someone listed on their emergency card. Students will not be allowed to walk off of campus at any time.

We like to look at this as our big send off party for our 8th graders. We will have kids in ball shorts with t-shirts and others in formal wear. We want all our students to be comfortable and have fun.

The road from Don Franklin to the bus garage has been paved today. The road is currently closed but they plan to have it open at 3:15.
