Last full day in Quito, Ecuador
So today, many folks have embarked on an extraordinary excursion to the breathtaking Mindo cloud forest, an experience that will undoubtedly leave them in awe. I have chosen to stay at this stunning hotel in Ecuador and bask in the serenity of the pool and sunshine, feeling grateful for this moment of tranquility. Believe it or not, it is a bit chilly here today, a reminder of the beauty of nature's unpredictability. Given our elevated position above sea level, the altitude bestows a cooler climate, and the heat is not as intense as it is in the enchanting Galapagos islands, a true marvel of our planet. Overall, it has been an absolute fabulous trip to the Galapagos Islands through the lens of Celebrity Cruises, a journey that has inspired me to appreciate the beauty of our world. I highly recommend this exceptional company, whose commitment to excellence and service is truly commendable. Between the impeccable organization, excellence and service, kindness of all staff members, and just quality of the naturalists, we enjoyed a top-notch vacation that will forever be etched in our memories, a testament to the power of travel to transform our lives.
Here are a few pics from our day in Santa Cruz. One part of the day included a beautiful trip to their forest where they plant two different types of trees on behalf of the conservation society, a heartwarming example of our capacity for compassion and stewardship. They invited all Celebrity members to join in as well, a wonderful opportunity for us to give back to the community. They organized boots for us to walk through the forest, a thoughtful touch that made the experience even more enjoyable. They had the holes already dug for the trees and had each tree tagged with a specific number, a testament to the careful planning and attention to detail that went into this project. It was a momentous event to be able to give back to the forests of Galapagos, a truly uplifting experience that filled my heart with joy. We then visited the giant tortoise research center, a fascinating glimpse into the important work being done to protect these incredible creatures. We finished off our day at this beautiful Manzanilla ranch, where we were served an exquisite Andes-based buffet cuisine and presented with seven different Ecuadorian dances, a vibrant celebration of the local culture.
This particular ranch is a family-owned ranch which included the making of their own beer called “Bo***es IPA and Bo***es Blond“ beer, a delightful example of entrepreneurial spirit and creativity. They even allowed us to sample their version of moonshine with different flavors, a fun and unexpected treat. The flavors included passionfruit, lemongrass, and coffee, moonshine, each one a unique and delicious surprise.
Yesterday we took a tender to get to a bus ride to get to the airport of which we then took a flight from Baltra, Galapagos to Quito, Ecuador, a journey that was both exhilarating and exhausting. Today is Monday, June 1 and we are spending the last day here enjoying the beautiful pool and gardens of JW Marriott, a tranquil oasis in the heart of the city.

🌴 Galápagos Adventure: May 29 Highlights 🌊🐢
Three islands. One unforgettable day. Here's where we will explore:

➡️ Slide 1: Las Bachas, Santa Cruz
Step onto soft coral sands where WWII history meets nature's beauty. Nesting sea turtles, flamingos, and marine iguanas await on these quiet shores. 🇺🇸🐢
✨ The beach’s name comes from a mispronounced “barges” — a relic from abandoned U.S. military equipment after WWII.

➡️ Slide 2: Daphne Major
An island like no other — untouched, uninhabited, and bursting with life. Home to rare seabirds and the legendary finch study that changed evolutionary science forever. 📚🦜🌋
✨ Peter and Rosemary Grant’s 40-year research here proved that evolution can be observed in real time.

➡️ Slide 3: North Seymour
Blue-footed bo***es dancing, pirate-like frigatebirds soaring, and sea lions basking in the sun. It's wild Galápagos at its finest. 🦎💃🐦
✨ Formed by a seismic uplift rather than volcanic activity, the island hosts the archipelago’s largest frigatebird colony.

📍 Every island tells a story. Which one's calling you?

🌋✨ EPIC ADVENTURES GALÁPAGOS | MAY–JUNE 2025 ✨🌊
WEDNESDAY, MAY 28: SULLIVAN BAY, SANTIAGO & BARTOLOME ISLAND

Get ready for a day where geology, history, and wildlife come together in the most epic ways imaginable. Two unforgettable locations, one extraordinary journey.

👉 Slide 1: Sullivan Bay, Santiago
Step onto a landscape shaped by fire and time. Just 150 years ago, molten lava carved its way across this stretch of Santiago Island, leaving behind an otherworldly terrain that looks more lunar than earthly. As you hike across these hardened flows, you’ll discover textures and formations that tell the dramatic story of volcanic origin—this is nature’s artwork in its rawest form.
🌱 Look closely: life is slowly returning, with pioneer plants like Mollugo sprouting between cracks in the lava.
🌊 Santiago also holds deep historical roots: pirates once resupplied here, and Charles Darwin visited this very island aboard the HMS Beagle.
🦭 Wildlife watchers, keep your eyes open at nearby Puerto Egas for Galápagos Fur Seals, flamingos, and marine iguanas basking in the sun.

👉 Slide 2: Bartolome Island
Though it may appear barren, Bartolome is one of the most iconic and photographed spots in the entire Galápagos. This volcanic islet is home to Pinnacle Rock, a towering basalt formation born from underwater lava explosions—and famously featured in Master and Commander.
🏞 Hike to the summit for breathtaking 360° views of lava cones, golden beaches, and turquoise waters.
🐧 Along the shores, you may catch glimpses of the charming Galápagos Penguins, survivors of El Niño and stars of the island’s wildlife story.
🌊 Snorkelers can explore crystal-clear waters filled with sea lions, Green Turtles, and even white-tipped reef sharks.

📅 Mark your calendar: May 28, 2025
This is more than a cruise stop—it’s a journey into deep time, untouched beauty, and life in one of the planet’s most unique ecosystems.

Day four – Galapagos Islands, Santiago and Bartolome Islands
Today with Travel to the east side of Santiago to enjoy a short lava rock with a short wildlife tender ride.
Here are a few pics from yesterday’s tender ride and steep climb to see Darwin’s Lake.
What an amazing array of animals in their own habitat.
It’s so refreshing to see environment uncluttered by commercialism, street noises and mass marketing. It’s like nature can still exist free from outside influences. Kudos to the strict Ecuadorian laws to preserve the wildife.
