It appears that our local aerial surveillance has identified what we term a false crawl. This is one of 3 false crrawls of the morning. This is also the first action we have seen on Pensacola Beach. Looks like we need to discuss false crawls. Do you know what the term false crawl means?
A "false crawl" is what we refers to as a sea turtle coming ashore to potentially nest, but then turning around and returning to the Gulf without depositing her eggs. It's has become a common occurrence, sometimes the reason could be natural, maybe the spot did not suit the turtle, tide was wrong or the weather was bad. It could also be due to disturbances like artificial lighting, human presence or even noises.
Please do us a solid and turn your Gulf facing lights off (including those fancy christmas lights), close curtains and blinds, take everything with you when you leave the beach for the day and fill in your holes. This will give our turtle nesting mamas a clean flat beach and a peace of mind that her nest will be safe.
