🛂 THE DIRTIEST THING IN YOUR CARRY-ON MIGHT SURPRISE YOU!

And here I thought my years as an IV Pharmacy Technician had taught me just about everything I needed to know about keeping things clean! 😂

Believe me, after 30+ years in pharmacy, I've sat through more continuing education lessons about microns, bacteria and sterile technique than I care to count.

So when I came across a study about the bacteria we carry around while traveling, I had to read it.

Guess what topped the list? Your PASSPORT!

It makes sense when you think about how often it gets handled during an international trip.

But here's the twist...

Don't clean your passport with disinfecting wipes!

The chemicals and moisture can damage it, and the last thing anyone needs is a damaged passport when trying to board an international flight.

A protective passport holder and good hand hygiene are much better choices.

And just because bacteria are present doesn't mean you're going to get sick. That's an important distinction my pharmacy background taught me.

Travel Well isn't just about choosing the right cruise, hotel or tour. It's also about knowing those little things that can make your journey go more smoothly.

🏔️ ALASKA 2027: I’M STARTING TO SAY THESE WORDS MORE OFTEN—“THAT ONE’S ALREADY GONE.”

And I don’t particularly like saying them.

I’ve been working on quite a few Alaska trips lately, and I’m starting to see the choices for 2027 get noticeably slimmer.

That doesn’t mean Alaska is sold out. It means when we start narrowing things down to the itinerary you really want, the right CruiseTour, a good stateroom location and the dates that work for you, some of those first choices are already disappearing.

This is why I talk so much about planning Alaska early.

I would much rather sit down with you while we still have several good options and talk about what actually fits you. Do you want more time in Denali? Glacier Bay? A land-first or cruise-first itinerary? Do you want a verandah? How active do you want to be? How many days do you really want to spend in Alaska?

Those things matter.

And if 2027 is starting to feel a little picked over for what you want, 2028 is already open. Sometimes waiting another year and having better choices makes far more sense than settling for what happens to be left.

Alaska is too big of a trip to choose simply because “this one is still available.”

Why I Ask So Many Questions Before I Recommend a Trip

Getting to know you isn’t just nice conversation. It actually helps me plan better travel.

Two people can tell me, “We want to go to Italy,” and mean completely different things.

One might picture beautiful hotels, leisurely mornings, w**e country and wonderful dinners. Another wants history, art, guided sightseeing and enough activity to make every day feel full.

Neither one is wrong. They’re just very different vacations.

That’s why I ask questions. I want to know what makes you tired, what gets you excited, whether you enjoy being around people, how much structure you like, what you absolutely don’t want to miss—and what you’d happily skip.

Google can tell you what’s popular.

My job is to help figure out what fits you.

And the earlier we have that conversation, the more choices we usually have when it comes to dates, accommodations, itineraries and experiences.

Apparently, it’s Get to Know Your Customers Day. But in my travel world, getting to know people isn’t something that happens just one day a year.

It’s actually a pretty important part of what I do.

My Coffee Chats and W**e Chats are intentionally casual because they give me a chance to sit down, talk travel, answer questions—and get to know YOU. What you enjoy, what makes you curious, what makes you nervous about traveling, and sometimes what has absolutely nothing to do with travel at all. 😊

NATIONAL GUMBO DAY ⚜️

Today seems like a perfectly good excuse to visit New Orleans without leaving the group.

You sit down and a steaming bowl of gumbo appears in front of you.

🍗Seafood & sausage gumbo
🥄 “I don’t care—just hand me the spoon!”

And now I want gumbo for breakfast. 😂

🏔️ WHY HOLLAND AMERICA KEEPS COMING UP WHEN I TALK ALASKA

If you’ve talked Alaska with me, you’ve probably heard me mention Holland America more than once.

There’s a reason for that. I’ve sailed with them several times, I genuinely enjoy their ships, and I think they do Alaska very well.
One thing I especially like about an Alaska cruise is that it can be as active—or as relaxed—as you want it to be. You can spend the day hiking, whale watching, kayaking, fishing, taking a train into the mountains or even flightseeing over Alaska…and then come back to the ship, have dinner and sleep in the same bed. No repacking every couple of days.

And if you want to see more than the coastline, that’s when we start talking about a CruiseTour and heading inland to places like Denali.

But here’s why I’m talking about Alaska NOW.
