A DIY w/o the safari is a lot less.

For those who want to serve, I can guide you to the flights and sites where you can make your own reservations.
It's time consuming for me to do it all--and work FT--and finish my Masters program. This is why I offer the DIY option. Saves you money, saves me time, and provides a much needed service to an area without a dentist.

Kenya had about 800 working dentists. This is a 1:65,000 ratio. Most DDS have their practice in a city--where they can keep the lights on. Rural areas cannot support a clinic where people make $10/day if they do well, and $1.90/day if they are lower socioeconomic class.

The need in these areas far from a city is very great. We necessarily do a lot of extractions. We have restorative equipment and materials. We have extractions pliers and elevators, syringes, etc. We have suction, handpieces, and compressed air.

We have a local DDS who helps us source and purchase things there, which saves shipping and costs. https://bflinternational.org/our-team #1748248275653
His practice is in Nairobi. LOVELY office!!

In other pictures you can see the set up.

I'm looking for YOU--to spare just 20 BUCKS. We spend that much on one meal now, at a drive through. What if you could feed a family of 5 for 5 years with that same twenty dollar bill?
YOU CAN.

Help us gift 20 families with a way to make ends meet in Kenya when we go in February 2025. And why not come along, too?

Spare a twenty. I promise to take pictures of the receiving family in case you can't be there.

I want to tell you a story.
After 15 hours in flight from Los Angeles to Dubai, I quickly looked at my next boarding pass to see how long I had until departure of my connecting flight. I had already missed my initial flight to Nepal the day before, having both needed a covid test, and also had forgotten my passport at home, of all things!
They were boarding at the same time I was landing. How could that be? I grabbed my stuff and RAN through the terminals. My gate was on the very opposite side of the airport, at least 25 minutes away—if I ran. My blood was pumping so hard I could painfully feel my pulse in my teeth. Sweaty and spent I ran/limped up to the gate a moment after they closed and locked the portal. I begged to get on. Nope. I was sent to customer service back at the entrance of the terminal. This gate was at the very end of it. Uncertain of whether I would be spending the night in Dubai and delayed yet another day, I made my way back past at least 20 gates.

Finding the circular desk for “customer service” I waited in line. Only one person was ahead of me, and they were being helped already.

After several minutes a Chinese man came up behind me in line, all smiles. He held out his open passport for me to read, stating his name and reason for coming into line. Although I do not recall his stated purpose, it was something he couldn’t solve anywhere else but at this desk. The passport was in both Chinese and English. He did more chatting, calling me sister several times. He also referred to God. I was totally puzzled, knowing China is a communist country. I hadn’t said hardly a word. Still smiling he said, “Don’t worry. There’s two others with you. You’ll be ok.” He then stepped out of line and walked away. After about 6 steps, he paused and turned, waving, “God bless you sister” then disappeared into the crowd.

It may not be that impressive, but it’s the assurance I have needed a year later to go—even if I am alone once again.
