5 Things to Know Before Booking a Private Villa 🏡

1. Start early. Villa inventory isn’t like hotels — availability is limited, and calendars aren’t readily available. We’re working directly with rep companies and owners, and finding the right vibe, price and bedrooms- all takes time.

2. Your home away from home, but even better. 🤩 Families, multi-gen groups, milestone celebrations — nothing compares to having your own space, your own pool, and zero strangers around.

4. Staff is often à la carte. Housekeepers, private chefs, yoga instructors, massage therapists and more — many villas offer varied types of staff as an add-on. It can definitely be arranged, but it’s usually a separate cost worth budgeting for.

5. This is where a travel advisor comes in. Navigating villa inventory, vetting properties, coordinating with owners — it’s a lot of moving parts. I do this so you don’t have to.

Guess who’s celebrating 10 years as a travel advisor? 🎉

Ten years ago, I was burnt out from the corporate world, running in a bazillion different directions as a single mom with two young kids. I knew one thing for sure, I absolutely loved travel.

Going back to when I was 8 years old living on a rural farm, I read every travel magazine I could get my hands on (an issue of started it all!), traveled every chance I got, and loved being the go-to person friends called for travel intel.

Thanks to the encouragement of my besties (and.. some margaritas), I decided to pivot and make this my full time career. Starting with a course while building Bastian World Travel’s website, then ‘opening my doors’ asking every person I knew, “book your hotel through me”.

A decade, a global pandemic, thousands of itineraries and millions of invoice dollars later, I’m grateful I took that leap, thanks to the cheerleading squad of family and friends, my supportive host agency , our incredible global partners, and every client who trusted me with their precious time and travel vision.

✈️ An important reminder: The best time to think about travel protection is sooner than you think.

With current recent fuel concerns and questions around flight changes, we are seeing a lot of questions about purchasing trip insurance. But here’s the thing to remember- once an issue becomes a known event, it’s more than likely no longer a covered reason under many policies.

🍷 Pick your home base wisely
Tuscany isn’t a single destination—it’s a region. You could be facing 1-2 hours in between towns if you don’t map your route strategically. Florence is perfect for art and culture, while smaller towns like Volterra or San Gimignano offer a slower, more immersive vibe.

🚗 Transportation matters more than you think. Trains connect major cities well, but if you want to explore those long windy dirt roads to hidden vineyards, and lesser visited towns, renting a car is a must.

📅 Pace yourself
It’s tempting to cram heaps of towns into one trip—but Tuscany is best savored slowly. Build in time for wine and olive oil tastings and getting a little lost - we all know those moments make for the best stories!

🌄 Timing is everything. Arriving to Tuscany’s hill towns by car, parking will be limited- be sure to arrive no later than mid morning to find a spot ✅ Also, spring and fall bring ideal weather and fewer crowds. Summer is beautiful but busy (and hot!).

London, you’ve officially spoiled me 🇬🇧 🌟 and mostly because my stay was next level.

From the gorgeous one bedroom Trafalgar suite (definitely could get used to butler service 💁🏼‍♀️) to the helpful staff, to the ode to the Thames desk art at check-in, to the incredible restaurant options on property (queue the handmade pasta 🤤).

Afternoon tea is divine (and I would know since I scouted out quite a few city options 🤓). The spa? Massive and who knew floating fireplaces over a thermal spa were a thing? Magical and restorative.

The best part of our visits to hotels is the chance to build relationships with the team- thank you ❣️ We know you will take great care of BWT clients 🙌
