Reservoir in the clouds!

As the coastal fog lifts over the Whale Rock Reservoir, the golden morning light spills across the rolling hills and quiet oak groves just inland from Cayucos, creating a private world where the only sound is the rhythmic turn of your pedals or the soft crunch of gravel beneath your boots. Moving together along the shimmering shoreline with the distant scent of the Pacific carried on the breeze, you progress amidst the whispering sycamores, wrapped in a timeless stillness where the brilliant blue water mirrors the warmth of your stride and the quiet romance of the central coast.

At Whale RockReservoir you can hike or bike around the reservoir. The main trail is a wide, 4.2-mile out-and-back dirt road that hugs the shoreline of the 594-acre reservoir. It features gentle inclines and panoramic views of the water, grazing cattle, and surrounding valleys.

Stay at the Green Cottage and bike or drive to the staging area, and enjoy the peace of quiet waters overlooking the ocean.
