There is simply nothing like New York City during the holidays! The entire city begins transforming in early November, with festive markets, sparkling storefronts and beloved seasonal attractions appearing throughout the month.

By Thanksgiving week, the magic is well underway:

🎈 The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is November 25, 2027
💃 The Radio City Rockettes’ Christmas Spectacular traditionally begins in early November
🚂 The New York Botanical Garden Holiday Train Show generally opens in mid-November
⛸️ Ice-skating rinks and holiday markets begin opening in late October and early November
🛍️ The famous Fifth Avenue department-store windows are typically unveiled by Thanksgiving
🎄 The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree usually arrives in November and is illuminated shortly after Thanksgiving
✨ Dyker Heights, Hudson Yards, Saks Fifth Avenue and neighborhoods across the city glow with incredible holiday displays

For the fullest Christmas experience, I recommend traveling after the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting—generally from early December through Christmas. Imagine seeing the tree sparkle, watching the Rockettes, browsing Bryant Park’s holiday shops, skating beneath the skyline and enjoying hot chocolate while the city glows around you!
