This Mother’s Day was a little bittersweet without my sweet pup, Oreo in my life. My husband planned a very special day around my asks. We had a spectacular breakfast buffet at the Brown Hotel. When I say it was spectacular, I mean in every way. Service was so attentive, the tables were decorated with fresh flower centerpieces, the food was more than plentiful. They had everything from ceviche to prime rib. I wanted to try it all.

Our 2nd stop was a place unbeknownst to me, Shelby’s Tea House. The experience can be booked through Airbnb where it is very reasonably priced. The host, Rohit, is so gracious and welcoming into his beautifully designed space. It’s set up as a Japanese tea house. You’re simply transported into that world as soon as he invites you inside. Don’t let the location deter you.

He spent two hours with us, letting us sample four teas and conversing about all types of interesting matters. The presentation is thoughtful prepared and informative. I wish him all the success in his business.

It’s that time of year in Louisville, the start of Derby festivities.

Honest review of Pillow & Paddock BnB:

Positives - Close to Louisville
Responsive staff
Beautifully remodeled apartment
Hot tub access
Ping pong
Movie room with pop corn machine and other treats
Cool speakeasy, make your own drinks
Smart toilet - such an awesome amenity

Negatives - no breakfast for the guests staying in the apartments; for the amount we are paying per night - it really turned me off that this wasn’t included. They tried to offer it to me at $30pp but that’s not something I wanted
Not much to do at the actual house

Just getting back from a 4 night stay at the resort and here are my pros and cons and why I would not return.

Pros:
Food is good pretty much everywhere with a few exceptions. They have a buffet, Landshark, license to chill, Italian and steak house. So a very good variety.
Lots of pools so you never feel crowded
Comfortable beds and adequate space in our room
Mini fridge
Robes
Beautiful rain shower
Rooms cleaned every day
Nice balconies with ocean view
Friendly staff (almost everywhere)
Grounds are well maintained and clean
Very good room service 24 hrs - can be scheduled in advance

Cons:
No beach so you can’t really get in the water or walk up and down the beach (deal breaker for me)
Pools didn’t seem heated and no hot tubs
Drink quality was hit or miss (the best drinks by far were at salted rim)
Reservations for the 2 nice restaurants were impossible for a larger group
Rooms smelled like mildew
Lights are difficult to operate
Points system to get snacks/drinks in our room is way too cumbersome - no mini bar
Needs more morning fitness classes
Major towel shortage at the pools

For someone that loves to sit by the pool all day this is probably a perfect place. For me, I need a beach and places to go. I need hassle free reservations to upscale restaurants, not trying to get on an app at exactly 9am to get a spot. I don’t want to wake up and go down to the pool to secure our daily towels and spots. So for these major reasons I would not return
