Sunday I had the opportunity to go to Old New-Gate Prison in East Granby, CT for "Light into the Dungeon:" a Jack O' Lantern experience.
Old New-Gate Prison originally opened in 1707 as the first chartered copper mine in North America and was then converted into Connecticut's first official state prison in 1773. Inmates were housed underground in cold, damp mine shafts in total darkness and this seasonal event lights up the subterranean space with hundreds of glowing jack-o'-lanterns.
