Another big step in our cabin build! 🏡✨
Rough-in inspection passed and onto insulation!

Insulation may not be the most exciting part to look at, but it’s one of those behind-the-scenes steps that will make a big difference in how our cabin feels year-round.
We’re one step closer to a cozy retreat we can enjoy in every season, and it’s so exciting to see all the pieces coming together!

🏡 How we found our builder Rainstorm LLC Handyman Services… sometimes the best connections come from social media!

Finding the right builder for our custom cabin was one of the first big steps in this journey. We actually found ours through Facebook, thanks to the then owner of the avashenandoah ! It’s funny how one connection can lead you in the right direction and help turn a dream into reality.

We’re so excited to continue sharing our journey, from the early planning stages to watching our cabin come to life. 🌲🤎

A little weekend update from both sides of the build 🏡🤎

While my husband went to check on the progress at the cabin, I was in the kitchen baking cookies for a dear friend’s one-year celebration of being in business with her brokerage. 🍪🥂

One of us was checking on the progress of our dream, while the other was celebrating someone else’s dream coming to life. There’s something pretty special about that. ✨

So thankful for the people, milestones, and little moments that make this season so sweet. 🤍

💧 Well, it’s time to find some water!

They started drilling our water well, and we’re definitely curious to see what’s down there. How deep will we have to go? How many gallons per minute will we get? And, of course… how much is this going to cost us? 😅

More updates to come on the depth, GPM, and final cost once we know the answers. Fingers crossed for a good well! 🤞💦

Another big step in the cabin build! 🏡

Brunch at Barca Alexandria ☀️🍹

My go to: Tzatziki, Stone Fruit Sangria, and the Mushroom & Burrata Toast. The perfect combination of refreshing, savory, and seriously delicious.

Add in the waterfront views and a leisurely brunch, and you’ve got a pretty perfect way to spend a morning in Alexandria. ✨

Building our cabin: We have a budget and we’re going to stick to it.”

Also building our cabin: “Well… since we’re already doing this, we might as well upgrade that.”

Somehow, every budget has become more of a starting point than an actual number.

Building a custom cabin is full of decisions, and apparently our favorite phrase is, “It’s only a little more.”

Six months in and we’ve learned one thing for sure: everything costs more than you think it will. 🏡💸

I also have no idea how we’re going to pay for these upgrades... Make sure you cushion your budget by A LOT.

Luxury isn’t just about how it looks—it’s about how it feels.

Our primary bath was designed to feel like a private retreat, where every detail is intentional and every moment feels indulgent.

His & her showers.
Oversized rain shower head.
A statement-sized niche illuminated with dimmable LED lighting.
Reflective ambient lighting that transforms the space after dark.
Heated floors underfoot.
Steam generator.
An Airmada air-jet drying system.
Not one, but two heated air-jet tubs.
And views of the Shenandoah River through our Debesto windows that makes it all feel even more extraordinary.

Because the ultimate luxury is having a space that makes you never want to leave.

The best design knows when to disappear. ✨ Discreet screening and minimal cable railings keep the focus on what matters most—the view.
Every detail was thoughtfully designed to preserve clean sightlines and create a seamless connection between the comfort of the indoors and the beauty of the landscape beyond. Nothing in the way. Just the view.

Our replacement windows and custom exterior doors finally made their way onto a container ship sailing to us from Poland.

To say we’re excited is an understatement.

Our building timeline was slightly thrown off due to a window miscommunication with our engineer. It ended up working in our favor as Debesto launched an amazing door line that we pivoted to.

Our builder will finally be able to get back to what they do best- building.

Some of the biggest decisions when building a home are the ones you notice every single day.

For us, the windows and doors were always going to be an important part of the design. We wanted clean lines, beautiful proportions, plenty of natural light, and a connection between the inside and the outside. 🪟✨

We ordered our windows and doors from Debesto Poland, and it’s been exciting to see them finally become part of the house.

There’s something special about watching the spaces come together — one window, one door, one detail at a time.

Can’t wait to share the amazing front and side entry doors once they are in.
