Most people associate the community of White Horses in St. Thomas with the waterfall that flows directly off the hillside and wash right across the main road into the sea. Little do they know that the popular spot that has been a staple in the parish since the 20th century is actually called Rozelle Falls, yes it is not called White Horses Falls as popular belief.

Rozelle Falls get its name from the Rozelle Estate that was located immediately around the corner from the waterfall. The next time you are traveling through White Horses please stop and soak up a bit of our history.

The Morant Bay War of October 1865 remains one of the most pivotal moments in Jamaicas history. The rebellion was a boiling point of decades of frustration following the 1838 abolition of slavery. Paul Bogle was the architect of the movement, he was the spiritual leader, however there is a little unknown lady that the history will not tell you about, her name was Letitia Geoghegan.

Letitia in my mind played the most significant role, she was the person who threw the first stone at the British Soldiers at the courthouse which signal the start of the war. I should also mention that another woman, Rosanna Finlayson also played a significant role in the war, she stood hand in hand with the men until she was captured.

When you are driving along the South Coast of Jamaica, there is one MUST stop! Border, St. Elizabeth.

Located at Scott Cove, right on the boundary line between St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland, “Border” isn’t just a location, it’s a culinary landmark, it’s a vibe, it’s a mood, and authentic Jamaican experience. If the smell of scotch bonnet pepper and frying fish doesn’t pull you over, the energy of the vendors definitely will.
