The 41st Annual Batteau Festival is almost here! Head to the James River on June 17, 19, & 20 for a weekend of live music, history, heritage, and riverfront fun in LYH. This year’s festival also celebrates the 250th Anniversary of America’s Independence and the 50th Anniversary of the James River Association.
🌊 Wednesday, June 17 from 10 AM–6 PM
Experience the James River from the water during Batteau Experience Rides at Riveredge Park in Madison Heights. Climb aboard a traditional batteau for a 30-minute educational ride hosted by the James River Association. Morning rides (10 AM–1 PM) are reserved for ages 50+ with registration required, while afternoon rides (2–6 PM) are open to all ages on a walk-up basis.
🎶 Friday, June 19 from 6–9 PM
Kick off the weekend at the Batteau Launch Party on Percival’s Island featuring live music from the Hackensaw Boys, food vendors, and a celebration of the James River tradition that has brought communities together for more than 40 years.
🚣 Saturday, June 20 from 10 AM–1 PM
Watch the official batteau launch as historic handcrafted boats set off down the James River. Then stick around for the Forward to Freedom Celebration featuring river-themed exhibits, cultural experiences, family-friendly activities, and the Ultimate Air Dogs dock-jumping competition.
