The Buffalo Maritime Center are on the way back to Buffalo on their 2026 Back to Buffalo Tour aboard The Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief. This statewide education and community engagement initiative is designed to connect students, educators and canal communities with New York’s living maritime heritage.
The Seneca Chief will stop in the Town of Lyons, NY for two days, June 18th and 19th. A Peace Tree Dedication at the Lyons Little League Fields at 6:00pm will kick off the events on June 18th. “Canal Connections”, a conversation with Buffalo Maritime Center’s John Montague and the local Comstock Family, will begin at 7:00pm at the Lyons Elks Lodge #869.
June 19th will provide the opportunity for groups to climb aboard the Seneca Chief and enjoy “Boat Building through History.” Sign your group up at buffalomaritimecenter.org. At 3pm “Final Stop, Freedom!” will begin with public viewing of the Seneca Chief, vendors, music, museum & walking tours, kayak rentals at Abbey Park and so much more.
