DownEast Acadia

DownEast Acadia Your trusted local guide to Downeast Maine and Acadia National Park You made it to the Easternmost Edge. You made it to DownEast Acadia!

DownEast Acadia stretches along Maine’s rugged northeastern coast from Penobscot Bay to the St. Croix River, encompassing an astonishing 2,300 miles of shoreline and more than 5,600 square miles of wide-open space. Within this vast landscape, seven unique travel regions offer their own perspectives on the DownEast Acadia experience, each with its own charm, pace, and sense of place. The Blue Hill

Peninsula, home to the working waterfront of Stonington and historic Castine, through Ellsworth, the region's activity hub, to the iconic Mount Desert Island, where Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park anchor a mix of lively and laid-back villages. Heading further along the coast, the Schoodic to Jonesport stretch is a hidden gem passing through Cherryfield, the "Wild Blueberry Capital of the World", and Acadia's Schoodic Peninsula. The Machias Bay region blends history and adventure, highlighted by Roque Bluffs State Park and the Annual Machias Wild Blueberry Festival. Inland, the Grand Lakes region offers pristine fresh waters and year-round recreation, while Way DownEast, anchored by Eastport and Lubec, greets the nation's first sunrise and connects visitors to Roosevelt Campobello International Park just across the border in New Brunswick, Canada.

We’re excited to welcome Renee Patterson of Bold Coast Charter Company as a featured panelist at the Destination DownEast Tourism Conference!

Raised in Lubec and now based in Cutler, Renee has spent decades connected to Downeast Maine’s working waterfront and tourism economy. Alongside her late husband Andy Patterson, she helped grow Bold Coast Charter Company from a small coastal tour business into one of the region’s most recognized visitor experiences, known especially for its trips to Machias Seal Island.

Today, Renee continues to lead the business while balancing family, community, and a lifelong connection to the coast that shaped her story.

Renee will join our “Where Land Meets Sea: Outdoor Experiences That Draw Visitors” panel exploring how guides and operators are creating authentic outdoor experiences that connect visitors to Downeast Maine.

We’re excited to welcome Elana Beal as a featured panelist at the Destination DownEast Tourism Conference on June 12th!

Elana is originally from “away” but now has her roots firmly planted deep in the rocky, acidic soils of Downeast, Maine. With her husband, she’s worked at Josh Pond Farm for over 10 years helping to harvest the wild blueberries, milking the goats, making aged cheese, and using her fine-art photography degree to photograph the farm and run the Josh Pond social media pages.

Elana will join our “Telling the Downeast Story Online” panel focused on how authentic storytelling and social media are helping businesses and communities connect with visitors across the region.
