Our first day, we went straight into the park at the West entrance and hiked Avalanche Lake. This was about 6 miles roundtrip - pretty easy overall, but it was a bit hilly and you had to be careful of rocks and roots. Near Avalanche Lake is the Trail of Cedars, which we didn’t do, but is an easy little walk for older people and young kids. You can do both together. From there, we popped over to the Lake McDonald Lodge for lunch and to see Lake McDonald. It was beautiful! We rounded out the day in Apgar Village for ice cream before returning home for dinner and porch time!
After the business of Day 1, we relaxed (a little) on Day 2. I was dying to go zip-lining, so we zip-lined at Whitefish Mountain Resort before taking the gondola up to the summit of Big Mountain, which was included with our zip line tour. They had some delicious chicken tenders at the top of the mountain, along with gorgeous views.
Day three was LONG. We were up before 5am to hit the road to go alllll the way to the East side of the park. It was almost 3 hours (🤢) but the views and the hike was worth it! We saw a grizzly right as we entered the park (in a car praise God) and proceeded to go on our hike. 10 miles roundtrip (!!!) and full of some of the most beautiful scenery. The last mile (ish) was treacherous, walking over slippery snow and over a rushing creek, but it was still with the trek. I cannot recommend this hike enough!
Day 4 was our chill day. We slept late, leisurely explored the town, and grilled steaks for dinner. Our condo had a beautiful view, a hot tub (that I used a lot), and a beautiful porch, which made it so enjoyable to hang out together outside and enjoy the beautiful weather!
