I still remember the first time I sailed past the glaciers.

I was standing on deck, coffee going cold in my hand, half-listening to the naturalist's commentary - and then this enormous slab of beautiful blue-white was before me.

That's the moment I understood why people come back from Alaska changed. It's not one big thing. It's a hundred small moments like that one, stacked on top of each other, that you can't fully explain to anyone who isn't standing next to you.
