🌺🇵🇹 Madeira, Portugal — Day Two: A Little Paradise Above the Clouds & a Taste of Madeira! 🍷🚡

Just when we thought Madeira couldn’t possibly get any more beautiful… along came day two! ❤️

Today we traded the rugged coastlines and charming villages of yesterday for a completely different side of this spectacular island — the beautiful city of Funchal!

🚡 Our adventure began with a cable car ride high above Funchal, gliding over the city’s colorful rooftops, lush hillsides, and terraced gardens, with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean stretching out below us. What a way to start the day!

🌿🌺 Next stop — the magnificent Monte Palace Tropical Garden!

Oh my goodness, what a magical place! Tucked high in the mountains overlooking Funchal, this extraordinary garden feels like stepping into another world. Exotic plants and flowers, beautiful waterfalls, tranquil lakes, Japanese-inspired gardens, and incredible artwork make every winding pathway a new discovery.

It’s truly one of Madeira’s hidden treasures, and the photographs simply cannot capture all its beauty!

🍷 And what would a visit to Madeira be without sampling its world-famous Madeira w**e?

Our afternoon included a visit to the historic Blandy’s W**e Lodge, where we discovered the fascinating history and centuries-old traditions behind Madeira’s famous fortified w**es.

Learning how these w**es are aged and crafted was such a treat — and, of course, a little w**e tasting made the experience even sweeter! 😉

What makes Madeira so special is its incredible diversity. One day you’re exploring dramatic volcanic coastlines and mountain villages, and the next you’re wandering through tropical gardens and sipping w**e steeped in centuries of history.

❤️ Two days in Madeira, and I can confidently say this island deserves far more than a quick cruise stop!

How exciting to be exploring this spectacular island on the very day it received its latest European tourism award! 🌍❤️

Our first day on this breathtaking Portuguese island was nothing short of spectacular! Arriving aboard the beautiful Celebrity Xcel, we were greeted by dramatic mountains, lush green landscapes, colorful villages, and the sparkling blue Atlantic Ocean.

We spent the day exploring Madeira’s stunning western countryside on our “8 Villages to the West” tour, discovering charming little villages, winding mountain roads, spectacular coastal cliffs, and panoramic views that seemed almost too beautiful to be real! 🌿⛰️

Every turn revealed another postcard-worthy scene. From the rugged coastline to the picturesque communities tucked into the mountains, Madeira is truly a destination where nature steals the show.

And the flowers! 🌺 The island’s subtropical beauty, rich history, and warm Portuguese hospitality make it easy to understand why Madeira is often called the “Pearl of the Atlantic.”

One of my favorite things about traveling is discovering destinations that surprise me, and Madeira has certainly done that. It’s so much more than a cruise port — it’s a destination worthy of its own vacation!
