“Do I need a passport for a Caribbean cruise?” 🚢 🌴

Your travel advisor is here to save you from a very stressful mistake.

This is one of the most important questions I answer as a travel advisor and it could save your entire vacation.

Here’s the short answer:
If you’re an American sailing on a closed-loop cruise (leaving from AND returning to a US port), you technically MAY be able to use a birth certificate + government ID instead of a passport for some Caribbean itineraries.

BUT, and this is a big but, here’s what I always tell my clients:

⚠️ If you have a medical emergency at a port and need to fly home, you’ll need a passport.
⚠️ Passport cards don’t count for air travel.
⚠️ Some ports and countries require a passport regardless.

My advice? ALWAYS travel with a valid passport. It removes all risk and gives you complete flexibility. Don’t let a document issue derail your dream vacation.

Good news: Celebrity Cruises is NOT your grandma’s formal night cruise. 🙌 Here’s what you actually need to pack.

🌊 DAYTIME (pool, excursions, buffet):
Swimsuits, cover-ups, sundresses, shorts, sandals,  full resort casual vibes.

🍽️ EVENING (main dining & specialty restaurants):
Smart Casual is the standard, think sundress, nice jeans, blouses, slacks. No swimsuits, tank tops, or baseball caps at dinner.

✨ CHIC NIGHT (Celebrity’s version of formal night):
This is their signature, think cocktail attire. Not a ball gown required, but a little extra glam is SO fun.

My honest packing advice: 2 nicer dinner outfits, lots of casual day wear, and comfortable shoes for ports. That’s it!
